The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi, recently conducted a working visit to the University Medical Centre for an on-the-spot assessment of the services provided.
Upon her arrival, she was received by Professor Lasbery Asomugha, Director of UNIZIK Medical Services, who led her on a tour of the facility. During the visit, Professor Asomugha relayed the unfortunate news that doctors had withdrawn their services following directives from the Anambra State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA). This decision was taken in response to the recent kidnapping of a member of the association, which has resulted in a state-wide suspension of medical services by doctors until the abducted doctor is safely released. Despite this, the medical center continues to operate with nurses available to attend to patients.
While at the facility, Professor Arinze-Umobi engaged with several students who were there to receive medical care. She reassured them of the university management’s commitment to providing top-notch healthcare services, emphasizing that her visit was intended to ensure that students were receiving the necessary attention.
In response, the students expressed their satisfaction with the quality of care they had received from the medical center.
