I am delighted to share some exciting news from the 2025 Chinese Bridge Competition for Secondary School Students.

Confucius Institute at NAU Student Wins the 18th Chinese Bridge Competition (national stage)
On June 11 (local time), the online finals of the 18th Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students (national stage)- successfully ended.

After four nail-biting rounds, two students from the Confucius Institute at Nnamdi Azikiwe University—Mr. Onofeghara Ogheneruno Harry and Ms Gominah Precious Meyimi—finished top and runner-up, respectively. The champion will go on to represent Nigeria in the global finals of the competition in China.

Notably, this marks the 11th time that a student from the Confucius Institute at Nnamdi Azikiwe University has won the Nigeria Division championship since the institute began participating in the competition in 2018. It is also the sixth championship title since the institute first joined the Chinese Bridge competition for secondary school students in 2019. All six previous champions advanced to the global “Top 30”, with
four winning “Third Prize” globally,
two clinching “First Prize”, and
Two being crowned continental (African) champions—highlighting the institute’s outstanding achievements in Chinese language education and cultural promotion.

We deeply appreciate the Ag. VC’s outstanding support and visionary leadership, have been instrumental to our continued success.

May God bless our Confucius Institute, bless UNIZIK, and bless Nigeria.

Warm regards,
Yu Chukwudi Zhangbao
