The Centre For Migration Studies Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (CMS-NAU) is creating innovations and blazing the trail in academic programme development in a variety of ways. Sponsored by Nnamdi Azikiwe University and supported by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the Centre has made another significant stride. From 19th to 23rd August, 2019 the Centre successfully hosted an engaging migration module Development Retreat and Workshop with the theme: “Teaching Migration for Effective Learning”. The event which took place at Ozom Villa Hotels, Enugu was in preparation for the launching of the Master’s programmes (Master of Arts in Migration Studies (MA); Master of Science in Migration Studies (MSc); and Master of Migration Studies (MMS)) for the 2019/2020 session. The exciting learning event was anchored by erudite resource persons drawn from academia, international organizations, civil society and other professionals versed in migration studies, teaching and educational assessment, learning management systems and academic modules development.

- The declaration of the event open by the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University; Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS. In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor thanked IOM for their support and also appreciated the NCFRMI and CSOnetMADE for consistently supporting the Centre since its inception. He further stated that the retreat was innovative, timely and strategic and expressed the hope that the outcomes will have a positive ripple effect across the University community and make an impact toward the actualization of Project 200 of the current university administration.
- Expressing satisfaction with the quality of the retreat and workshop, the representative of IOM Chief of Mission, Mr. Henry Akwiti assured that the IOM will continue to partner with the University and the Centre.
- Presentation of the workshop modules by the resources persons
- Dividing participants into teams and break away sessions for development of the modules for the migration courses.
- Presentations of the developed modules by the different teams and feedback from the control team.
Closing ceremony
The 4-day Workshop came to an end with a closing remark by the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Philomena Igbokwe who thanked all the participants for their active participation and for producing this important landmark module in the University. Thereafter certificates of participation were issued to all participants amidst great excitement and joy.
