Engineering researchers at UNIZIK has developed a proximity warning system capable of reducing accidents on the manufacturing shop floor, by notifying employers of any possible danger within the workplace. The system is an intelligent system that can detect and alert workers when they approach a danger zone.
The system was developed using the Unified Modelling Language, python programming language and the Arduino software. A preliminary test conducted on volunteer participants revealed that the system is easy to use and provides real-time easy-to-understand audio and visual feedback to workers. The system is useful for reducing accidents on shop floors.
The research output was published in the Journal of King Saud University – Engineering Sciences (10.1016/j.jksues.2020.11.004) by Dr Chika Mgbemena of the Department of Industrial Production Engineering at Nnamdi Azikiwe University and co-workers is available for commercialization with any interested partner.
