    Progress in the global fight against food insecurity remains slow, particularly in Africa. This is in spite of the increasing application of modern biological research including genetic modification to Agriculture and food production.A very important factor hampering this fight is post harvest losses of agricultural produce,revealed by research to be over forty percent in this zone currently.     Objectives
    The objectives of this programme are to produce Food science and technology professionalsequipped for key roles in national development.This will be achieved by: A. Providing our graduates with a comprehensive understanding of; 1. Chemistry and the chemistry affords. 2. Microbiology,the Microbiology of foods and the role microorganisms in relation to the quality and safety of foods. 3.Food engineering and processing technology Industry. 4.Human nutrition. 5. Core concepts of marketing food and the management of innovation as well as relevant food legislation and organizations involved in food safety control. B. 1.Skills for research into useful new products,processes and services. 2.Skills for essential management and enterpreneurial development.

    Admission Requirements
    Undergraduate

    The departments admits students by entrance examination (Joint Admission and Articulation Examination) for five - years program. The prospective student must satisfy both the University and Departmental requirements. The University admits only those who possess a minimum of 5 credits in relevant subjects either in relevant SSCE OR GCE in not more than two settings and who score the University's minimum JAMB score for the year of admission. The department admits candidate who meet the university admission requirements as well as possess credit level passes in English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, mathematics and physics. The direct entry admission is offered to candidates who possess Ordinary National Diploma or its equivalent with upper credit level passes. Advance General Certificate of Education level passes in Biology, Chemistry ,physics, Mathematics are acceptable.
