    We welcome you to the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management of Faculty of Agriculture, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria. The Department is made up the following specialist areas namely; Forestry Ecology, Silviculture, Forest Biometric, Wood pulp & Paper, Forest Economics, Forest Law & Policy, Land use Planning Dendelogy, Forest Taxonomy & Physiology Wildlife Management, Agro forestry & Extension.

    FORESTRY AND WILDLIFE


    The Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management took off in 2010 after resource verification by National University Commission (NUC) alongside other sister Departments in the Faculty of Agriculture. The first batch of students were admitted in 2011/2012 academic year. At take off, only one student was enlisted for the 5 years programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Forestry and Wildlife Management. Professor E. L. C. Nnabuife was the pioneer Head of Department while Dr C. I. Ezeano followed suit. Hitherto, the numerical strength of the department is 76 students as at the supply of this information..

    Mission

    The Department of Forestry and Wildlife management Faculty of Agriculture, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State is manifestly dedicated to the growth of forestry and wildlife education and because of its hybrid nature, promotes core academic and social values needed to produce highly qualified graduates who possess the capabilities required to best serve human kind in science, technology and forestry and wildlife management profession.

    Vision

    The Vision of the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management of Faculty of Agriculture, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State is to advance cutting- edge Forestry and Wildlife Management knowledge by creating a functional, competitive and indigenous Forestry and wildlife management oriented profession which can stand as a recognized leader among similar departments and meet the needs of a dynamic society using global standard.

    Objectives

    To produce graduates geared towards self-employment.

    To produce graduates with scientific knowledge and skills necessary for the industry and any aspect of forestry and wildlife.

    To produce graduates that are relevant to the society and who can contribute effectively to wildlife management and conservation, produce raw materials for small, medium and large-scale industries, environmental conservation and enhance socio-economic development.

    To produce the required manpower which will not only be used in staffing Forestry and Wildlife establishments nationally but which also would be able to carry out relevant mission oriented researches into all aspects of Forestry and Wildlife, yet unexplored benefits and products which can serve as bases for newer industries.

    Admission Requirements
    Undergraduate

    Candidates with credit passes at SSCE/WAEC/NABTEB/GCE ‘O’ Level in five subjects including the following at not more than two settings: Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Physics and either Geography, Economics with a credit pass in English Language. Subjects to be offered at the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) should include English Language, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry and any other Science subject preferably Physics or Mathematics. Nnamdi Azikiwe University Diploma holders as well as diploma holders from other recognized institutions can apply for direct entry admission provided they posses at least an upper credit level pass.
