  • Welcome to department of MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The mechanical engineering discipline is unique because it provides a focus for convergence of technologies. Its uniqueness naturally defines its role and dictates its increasing relevance in several disciplines and modern practices and techniques. The scope of application of mechanical engineering in the modern scientific and technological context is, therefore, infinitely wide. Students are equipped in the Department and are thus encouraged to function, research and engage in collaborative projects in wide professional contexts.

    : . HISTORY

    MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Nnamdi Azikwe University, has its beginning in the 1981/1982 academic year of the defunct Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH). When the present Anambra State was created in 1991, the two Campuses of the then ASUTECH at Awka and Nnewi were constituted by the Anambra State Edict No. 5 of 1991 into the Nnamdi Azikwe University with the Department of Mechanical/Production Engineering as one of the Department of  the University. Eventually in 2006/2007 academic year, due to programmes restructuring, the Department of Mechanical/Production Engineering was split into two. This gave birth to the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Industrial/Production Engineering. The postgraduate programmes also were split, giving rise to the postgraduate programmes of the Department of Mechanical Engineering as we have it today. From the outset, the Department had a clear vision. This was probably so because the founding academic staff of the Department were well qualified, highly motivated and were experienced. Ever since its establishment, the Department has progressively increased its intake of postgraduate students in line with the University and the NUC guidelines.

    DR. OKONKWO UGOCHUKWU C

    Senior Lecturer

    Mission

To provide students with enough basic engineering principles in mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, machine design, engineering management, automatic controls etc., which should enable them fit easily into industries.

    Vision

Our vision is to produce graduates with strong academic and practical background so that they can fit into industry immediately upon graduation.

    Objectives

Objective of Department of Mechanical Engineering is in line with the material objective as stated above. The programme of study is designed to produce mechanical engineers with sound theoretical and practical background, which should enable them fit easily into industries.
