ENGINEERING


Nnamdi Azikiwe University has strong Faculty of Engineering, which started, with the University in 1992. The faculty comprises of nine department namely: Agricultural and Bioresearches Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronic & Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Polymer and Textile Engineering. The faculty is being developed to acquire the status of a leading Faculty of Engineering in the country.

Mission

The faculty is founded on the philosophy that knowledge should be propagated and disseminated to individuals without hindrance. Teaching and research are anchored on the need of the immediate environment and the Nigeria society in general. The mission of faculty is, thus to use teaching, research and public service to solve societal problems. In the process of learning, students are oriented to use education in the solution of practical problems confronting them and the Nigeria society. It is hoped that the graduates of the faculty will use their knowledge to lift the society out of its problems in Science and Technology e.g. technology backwardness, poor health delivery services, agricultural under-production, environmental degradation, misapplication and /or under utilization of human and material resources, cultural disorientation etc. In totality, the mission of the faculty is to produce graduates who shall posses the following attributes: (a) A wide and ordered knowledge in a discipline area; (b) Ability to reason logically; (c) The ability to communicate clearly in speech and writing with confidence; numerical and computer literacy; (d) Acceptance of moral values as honesty; humility, truthfulness and high ethical stand in personal and professional life; (e) Acceptance of obligation and responsibilities; (f) The desire for life –long education and creativity; (g) Self confidence and result oriented ability;

Vision

To produce highly skilled and proficient manpower to meet the challenges of the society. To train highly proficient personnel to design, manufacture, manage and maintain facilities for mankind. To produce graduates who are competent enough to face the challenges of Engineering in developing countries.

Objectives

To acbieve the goals and objectives of the National Policy on Industrialization and self reliance, the Faulty of Engineering and Technology Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka is geared toward: -

  1. Encouraging the advancement of all branches of engineering and holding out to all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex or political conviction the opportunity of acquiring higher and liberal education;
  2. Providing courses and other facilities for the pursuit of learning in all its branches and making these facilities available on proper terms to such persons as are equipped to benefit from them;
  3. Encouraging and promoting scholarship and conducting research in all fields of learning and human endeavour;
  4. Relating its activities to the social, cultural and economic needs of the people of  Nigeria: and
  5. Undertaking any other activities appropriate for a University of the highest standard.
