: . HISTORY

PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University came into existence in the 2006/2007 academic session following the committee of Deans’ recommendation and approval by the University Council in May 2006.

The courage of Pharm Dr Ifeanyi E. Okoye, mni, and the visionary leadership of Prof Ilochi Okafor (SAN), the then Vice Chancellor remain the two most important factors that made this dream of establishing the Second Pharmacy School, East of the Niger a present reality.

Pharm. Dr Ifeanyi Okoye (the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Juhel Nigeria Ltd) and his wife, Pharm. Dr Amaka Okoye single-handedly endowed the Faculty building and encouraged other benevolent Agulu indigenes (including Chief & Lolo Aniagboso, Sir Franklin Anazodo, Sir Ejike Imoka and Sam Egenti) to endow one Departmental building each to the Faculty.

Thereafter, the University, under the distinguished leadership of Professor Boniface CE Egboka, FAS, has invested substantially in order to consolidate the Pharmacy School project. These include about N80m from the Education Trust Fund (ETF) invested in equipment procurement, an electricity transformer, a 350KVA generator, water borehole, furnishing of staff offices and furnishing seven laboratories for research and teaching.
