    ABSTRACT

    In challenging the lack of equipment for engineering education, the IMT Process-Heat-Transfer Apparatus was developed. The prototype development entailed mechanical workshop process for heat exchanger fabrication; glass blowing process for manometer construction; wood work process for bench construction; fitting process for centrifugal pumps, water tanks, electric thermostat water heaters, switches, rotameters, and differential manometers; plumbing process for cold and hot water channels; tubing process for manometer ducts; and wiring process for the centrifugal pumps and electric heaters via the switches. The photograph of the completed prototype was enclosed below and the prototype was found usable in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions of learning. The prototype IMT Process- Heat-Transfer Apparatus was exhibited in 1990 International Trade Fair held in Enugu, where it earned the recognition of the panelists of FOPCIT (Foundation for the Promotion and Commercialisation of Indigenous Technology). Subsequently, the article about the prototype was invited for publication and documentation by the FOPCIT’s panelists.

    Zikist economic thought in retrospect Implications for eradication of poverty in Nigeria

    ABSTRACT

            In this paper, efforts were made to piece together the various economic ideas of the sage, La Honourable Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe in the conviction that his thoughts would not only constitute an object scholarly interest but also have implications for eradication of poverty in Nigeria. A scrutiny of various opinions of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe on economic issues has resulted in identification of five major principles including:

    1. Centralization of administrative and economic structure;
    2. Achievement of self-sufficiency and self-reliance through joint efforts;
    3. Equality in the distribution of national income;
    4. Emphasis on dignity of labour and;
    5. Pursuit of maximum social benefits.

    These principles constitute the Zikist economic doctrines described by Dr. Azikiwe himself a “Economic Determinism” and designed by him as one of the intellectual arsenals to fight for the emergence of ‘ New Africa’. Through rigorous analysis, the relevancies of economic determinism in eradication of poverty in Nigeria have been established.

    Autonomy of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under different governments Implications for Nigeria’s economic development

    Carried Out By

     --Day--, 1999

    ABSTRACT

              This study was embarked upon with a major objective of establishing a relationship between the degree of CBN autonomy and selected macroeconomic variables. It was designed essentially as a descriptive survey. The sample comprised of 10 regimes in Nigeria since Independence. Data were analyzed using product-moment correlation techniques. Results indicate the following:

    1. The CBN had greater autonomy during the era of civilian regimes than during military era.
    2. CBN autonomy was directly related to inflation in Nigerian economy.
    3. CBN autonomy was inversely related to growth under military regimes
    4. CBN autonomy was inversely related to interest rates during the military era.
    5. CBN autonomy was directly related to exchange rates under the civilian regimes but inversely related to it under the military.

    On the basis of the above –stated findings, some recommendations were made.
