NFSS seeks UNIZIK’S Collaboration in Forest Reserve Protection
The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) has sought collaboration with Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, to protect the institution’s forest reserves from intruders and indiscriminate destruction.
The delegation made the request during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, on Friday, October 9, 2026, at his office.

Speaking during the visit, the Public Relations Officer of the Service, CSF. Nneke Chibuekem, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for receiving the delegation.
He congratulated Prof. Anyaehie on his emergence as the seventh Vice-Chancellor of the university, describing the visit as an opportunity to establish a relationship with the university’s management.
CSF. Chibuekem introduced members of the delegation and explained that the Service was committed to protecting forest reserves across the state from encroachment and activities that contribute to the destruction of forest resources.

He noted that UNIZIK’s extensive forest reserve required adequate protection and called for a partnership between the Service and the university to safeguard the reserve against unauthorised access and indiscriminate destruction.
In his response, Prof. Anyaehie welcomed the delegation and acknowledged the contributions of security agencies to maintaining peace and safety within the university and the wider community.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that the security of the institution and the safety of its students remained a major priority of his administration expressing the university’s readiness to collaborate with the NFSS in protecting its forest reserve and Service to sustain its efforts towards environmental preservation and security.

Members of the delegation included the State Commander, Com. Destiny E. Jonas; Commander, C.T.U., AC. Nneke Ifeanyi P.; DFO, Awka South, SF. Alfred Chinedu C.; Admin on Stock, SF. Okpechuku Juliet; and SF. Peterson Favour.
Also present were the NFSS Patron, Prof. Stephen Ufoaroh, and the Chief Safety Officer of UNIZIK, Obi Collins Chinedu.

The visit highlighted the importance of cooperation between security agencies and tertiary institutions in strengthening campus security, protecting natural resources and preserving the university’s forest reserve for future generations.
