QUANTITY SURVEYORS ON A COURTESY CALL TO THE VC
Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) hails VC’s administrative reforms, seeks support on areas of peculiar interests
The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) Anambra State Branch has commended the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie for the significant strides recorded so far by his administration within its short period in office.
Chairman of NIQS, Anambra State Branch, QS Chidi Oduenyi who made the commendation on behalf of the Institute during a courtesy visit by the members of the state chapter to the VC, said members of the chapter in the University have testified to the staff-friendly and innovative programmes introduced by the Vice Chancellor since he assumed office.
Conveying the prayers of the Chapter Institute that that God grants the Vice Chancellor the grace, wisdom and strength to accomplish his vision for the university, he assured the VC that NIQS members employed in various units of the University will continue to support the vision and goals of his administration.
“On behalf of the Quantity Surveying profession and members of Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) Anambra State Chapter, we warmly congratulate you on your assumption of this strategic office. We wish you a successful tenure marked by academic excellence, advancement in research and innovation, sustainable infrastructural development and exemplary leadership.” he stated.
In an introductory remark, QS Oduenyi told the Vice Chancellor that Quantity Surveyors are professionals trained to ensure the prudent management of construction finances through accurate cost planning, procurement advice, budgeting, contract administration, value management, cost control, risk management and financial reporting.
“Through effective cost-management practices, we help public institutions achieve quality infrastructure while ensuring the optimal utilization of limited resources.Quantity Surveyors at Nnamdi Azikiwe University are employed mainly in the Department of Quantity Surveying, Faculty of Environmental Sciences; the Physical Planning Unit; the Procurement Unit; and the Works Department. We sincerely appreciate the Vice-Chancellor for sponsoring our members to attend the 2026 Annual General Assembly of Quantity Surveyors—a gesture that had not been extended to our members by previous administrations” he said.
The Chairman also tabled various matters affecting their members who are employees of the university seeking the Vice Chancellors’ intervention in areas like employment of more academic staff for the department of quantity surveying, provision of office accommodation and facilities, employment of Quantity Surveyors in the Physical Planning and Procurement units of the university and also the need to look into the disparity in the entry level placement of quantity surveyors in the university.

We therefore offer to collaborate with your administration in the procurement, cost management and financial control of infrastructure projects. Engagement of our members who are veterans in Quantity Surveying professional services as consultants will provide valuable professional support to your administration” he stated
Responding, the Vice chancellor thanked the delegation for their visit and made the association know his stance on the employment of more academic staff. He told the delegation that he is a strong advocate for structures and facilities disclosing that he even signed for the release of office tables, air conditioners among others to departments that same morning of their visit which he said that the department of quantity surveying were among the recipients.
On the issue of disparity in entry level placements, the VC said that placements is based on the Staff Conditions of Service and charged the Institute to confirm what is obtainable in other institutions noting that if it's confirmed that disparity exists, they should present the matter through the proper channel and it will be addressed promptly.
With this, the Former HOD of the department gave a vote of thanks appreciating the VC for sponsoring its member to attend the annual General assembly of quantity surveyors and prayed for the VC’s successful tenure in office.
Others in the delegation included QS. Dr. Uchechi Alintha Abel - (Immediate past HOD Quantity Surveying Department), also the Deputy Director Awka Window on America UNIZIK who represented the current HOD, Prof. Uche Ajator (one of the founding fathers of the Quantity Surveying Department Unizik), QS Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuemerie (Deputy Chairman NIQS Anambra State Chapter and a lecturer in the Department of Quantity Surveying), QS C.J Okechukwu and QS Joel Okereke (Physical Planning Unit Unizik), and a host of other members of the Quantity Surveying Profession.
The visit ended with the association presenting an award of appreciation to the Vice Chancellor.
