NSE Awka Branch Visits UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Seeks Strategic Partnership for Engineering Development
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Awka Branch, has paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, to commend his administration’s achievements and explore strategic areas of collaboration in engineering development, professional advancement, infrastructure and power supply.
The visit, which took place on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, was led by the Chairman of the NSE Awka Branch, Engr. Stanley Ibemesi, alongside other members of the branch, including prominent engineering academics and professionals within the university community.
During the visit, Engr. Ibemesi applauded Prof. Anyaehie for the progress recorded by the university in less than a year since he assumed office as the seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor. He described the engagement as an opportunity to establish closer ties with the university management, familiarise the professional body with the Vice-Chancellor’s administration, and identify mutually beneficial areas of partnership.

The NSE Awka Branch Chairman stressed the importance of building a strong working relationship between the university and the professional engineering body, noting that such collaboration would create opportunities for engineers to contribute their expertise to institutional growth and development.
As part of the engagement, the delegation invited Prof. Anyaehie to deliver the keynote address at the 15th inauguration ceremony of the NSE Awka Branch Chairman, scheduled for November 28, 2026. The Vice-Chancellor is also expected to receive an award during the event in recognition of his contributions and achievements.

The delegation further appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to strengthen the involvement of engineers in the administration and development of the university by creating opportunities for qualified professionals to contribute through employment, contracts and other relevant engagements.
Emphasising the need to sustain professional excellence, the engineers also called for continued management support for the welfare, capacity building and career development of engineering personnel in the university. They specifically appealed for sponsorship to enable engineers to participate in seminars, technical training programmes, annual general meetings, conferences and other professional activities.
The branch also sought the university management’s support for the development of its secretariat building and the successful execution of its programmes and other professional initiatives.
Responding, Prof. Anyaehie expressed the university management’s willingness to support the development aspirations of the NSE Awka Branch and provided monetary assistance towards the branch’s projects. His response reflected the potential for stronger institutional ties between the university and the professional body in advancing engineering practice and development.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the existence of a solar farm within the university and encouraged the engineers to work with the management to explore ways of harnessing the facility to improve electricity supply across the university community.
He urged the branch to submit a clear and detailed proposal specifying its areas of need and the forms of assistance and collaboration being sought. According to him, a comprehensive proposal would enable the university management to evaluate the requests and determine practical and sustainable ways of supporting the branch’s projects and professional activities.

The proposed collaboration on the university’s solar farm presents an opportunity for engineering professionals to contribute their technical expertise towards improving energy infrastructure, while also strengthening the practical application of engineering knowledge within the institution.
Members of the delegation included Engr. Stanley Ibemesi, Chairman, NSE Awka Branch; Engr. Chioma Stella Chiogboka; Engr. Dr. Mary Jane Oluchi, UNIZIK Governing Council Member, Prof. Paul Okolie, Prof. Engr Ugochukwu Okonkwo, Dean Faculty of Engineering among others.
