The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, FAS hosted the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Zhou Ping Jian in UNIZIK recently.

 

Welcoming the ambassador, Prof. Ahaneku expressed joy for receiving him in UNIZIk. The visit he said will go a long way to redefine the goal of the Confucius Institute, as well as improve the relationship between the University and the People’s Republic of China. He stated that UNIZIK is the first University in the sub-Saharan Africa to host the Confucius Institute. He posited that the partnership has spans close to 10 years and has seen over 180 UNIZIK students awarded scholarship to study in various Universities in China.

 

Prof. Ahaneku noted that UNIZIK is the hub of Chinese learning in Nigeria, and has established teaching points in other tertiary institutions in the country. He noted that through the Confucius Institute, the institution has ordered her steps to mainstream in Chinese commerce, business, entrepreneurship, technology amongst others.

 

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the Institute gives platform to drive all areas of human endeavour in order to train the students to become self reliant and job creators after graduation.

 

In his remarks, the Chinese Ambassador expressed his happiness at the reception and hospitality the University accorded him since his arrival.  He added that Nigeria, to him, is a home away from home. In his words, ”It is really a great honour to be in this prestigious University”.

 

Nigeria, he noted, has been friendly country towards China and that the two countries share a lot of similarities in terms of population and economy in various continents. Speaking further, he stated that Nigeria is so endowed with human capital and natural resources and all it takes to become a leading manufacturing giant in Africa.

 

Mr. Jian believed so much progress will be made by this administration in the University with the kind of support received from the institute. He therefore, encouraged the Xiamen University to deepen the ties, as they will be marking the 10 years of their great partnership next year.

 

In her vote of thanks, the deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Carol Arinze-Umeobi thanked the ambassador for reaching out to the University. She further appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his unflinching support to the institute. She expressed optimism that the Institute will soar higher in years to come.

 

Present also to receive the Chinese Ambassador were the principal officers of the University and the lecturers of the Confucius Institute, UNIZIK.

 

High point of the visit was the presentation of certificates of graduation to some of the students as well as the unveiling of the 64 students who recently bagged the Chinese scholarship.

 

 

 

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka recently held its 38th inaugural lecture at the University Auditorium with Prof. Anthony Ikechukwu Ogbalu of the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education, Faculty of Education as the lecturer with the theme: Health Education: The Master Key to Healthy Living.

Prof. Ogbalu described healthy living as the practice of health enhancing behaviour, of which lifestyle plays significant role. He noted that lifestyle is regarded as the single most important factor that determines individual’s level of health. According to him, “Lifestyle boils down to everything we do which includes, the food we eat, what we drink, the drugs we take, our sleep and rest patterns, how we feel about ourselves; relationship with people and how we try to safeguard our health”.

 

The professor of Health Education harped on the need for people to be health educated in a bid to be healthy, citing the Ebola case where people were sensitized on ways to avoid the deadly disease, thus saving a great number of Nigerians from the epidemic. Prof. Ogbalu recommended the need for more health educators to be trained. He further advised the Federal and state governments to design policies for the promotion of healthy life styles as seen with Canadian Government in 2005.

 

Earlier in his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku, FAS

posited that health education is crucial in opportunity for learning which involves some form of communication, designed to improve health literacy, improving knowledge and developing life skills that are conducive to individual and community health.

 

The Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to God for the gift of knowledge which is further shared in the course of inaugural lectures and noted that the lecturer in the course of the lecture spoke from his area of expertise and competence, adding that he pointed out new ideas and various areas to improve one’s healthy living. Also, he commended the inaugural lecture committee for living up to expectations even in the slight adjustment made before the commencement of the important academic discuss.

 

In his vote of thanks, a member of the inaugural lecture committee, Prof. Michael Ezenwa expressed gratitude to God for a mild weather, while appreciating the Vice-Chancellor for his commitment and support for the all important academic discuss. He commended the chairman of the lecture committee, Prof. Amechi Oyeka for her resilience and dedication to the success of the lectures.

 

The inaugural lecturer saw the presence of dignitaries among them were; the DVC (Academic) Prof. Charles Esimone, University Librarian Prof. Obiorah Nwosu, Prof. Ada-Sam Omenyi Council Member,   Igwe of Abagana, HRH Igwe Patrick Mbamalu Okeke, former Director General of the National Orientation Agency Prof. Elochukwu Amucheazi,  and host of others.

 

High point of the occasion was the decoration of the inaugural lecturer by the Vice-Chancellor.

 

 

 

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has been selected as one of the pilot Tertiary Institutions for the development of a new vision on the teaching of French in Nigeria. This was made known in a letter signed by the Project Manager, Nigerian French Language Project, Federal Ministry of Education, Fanny Dureysseix.

 

Also, following the dynamic attitude of Prof. Mrs. Justina Nneka Okoye and Mr. Chukwunonso Muotoo at the previous professional French trainings held in December 2016 and June 2017 respectively, they have been re-nominated as trainee for the upcoming training that is scheduled as follows:

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, FAS has received the delegates from the West African Health Organization (WAHO).

 

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Joseph Olorunda who led the delegation said that the team was in the University for the harmonization of curriculum and certificate of courses in Health Related Departments. He posited that the visit was geared towards human resource development, adding that there is a lot of programmes the University stand to gain from the visit. He further thanked the Management for warm reception received.

 

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor expressed delight that the visit will in no doubt take the University to an enviable height. He averred that the University has been in the forefront of Environmental Health Profession, adding that this is evident in the B.Sc Environmental Health currently run in the Institution.

 

In his words, “This is a blessing, a reinforcement to give us better hope for the future in Nigeria and Africa at large. Prof. Ahaneku stated the University’s readiness to aid in any way possible to drive the project forward.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has been selected to serve as a centre for the 2017 Gani Fawehinmi Annual Scholarship Awards (GFASA) . The award is for twenty (20) students, each of whom will receive one hundred thousand naira (100,000:00). The criteria for the Award are that the applicants must be indigent, registered student of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria and also have good academic performance. The deadline for submission of the application is Monday, 28th August, 2017.

 


MODE OF APPLICATION;

  • Each applicant shall submit an application letter, not more than two pages. The letter must include the name of the candidate, course and year of study, state of origin and why the candidate believes that he or she should be given the award.
  • The application letter must be accompanied by; a photocopy of the candidate’s current identity card, a letter from the candidate’s current HOD including correct information on the candidate’s CGPA for the last academic session. The University Management, at its 335th Regular meeting held on Monday, 19th of June 2017, considered the report of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee on the case of Forgery of degree result leveled against Onyeagusi Ekene Joseph of the Department of Metallurgical and Material Engineering with Registration number: 2009254675 and Onaga Jacob U. of the Department of Production Technology with Registration number 2002263465.

 

Management noted as follows:

  • That the academic records of their Departments showed that they had not graduated
  • Also, they presented a forged degree result, because they have not graduated from the Department.

 

Management have directed that they should surrender their student identity card and any property of the University in their possession to the security department and totally keep off from the University Premises.

 

The Faculty of Education has topped the table with 41 gold medals and 19 Silver In the just concluded 2017 Vice-Chancellor’s Cup Sports competition held recently by all the faculties in UNIZIK. The sale of the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) forms for programmes in the 2017/2018 session has been extended to 8th of September, 2017

 

The sale of form for Postgraduate programmes of Nnamdi Azikiwe University for the 2017/2018 academic year has been extended till 15th of September, 2017.

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension has commenced a radio programme, tagged: “Farmers and Consumers Forum”, on UNIZIK 94.1F.M.  The programme commenced on the 5th of July, 2017, is aimed at bridging the gap between the town and the gown.

 

The initiative will serve as a medium to disseminate innovative information on agricultural technologies, and to keep farmers and members of the University Community abreast with current production trends, through the value chain, in order to improve production practices and enhanced yield.  Also, technologies on sustainable livelihood activities and better consumption patterns would be availed.

 

There would be open air interactions with professionals, farmers and the University Community.  Moreso, special packages for listeners’ contributions will be received at the Department occasionally.

 

Furthermore, the initiative arose at a time like this, when the country is facing challenges of economic melt-down in which agricultural restructuring is the most effective alternative.

The minimum academic qualification is exactly the same as for those applying for admission through UTME, namely, five O’ Level credits in the GCE, SSCE, TCII examinations or their equivalents. Faculty/Departmental requirements must also be fulfilled. Candidates with November/December 2017 results are not eligible to apply.

 

METHOD OF APPLICATION

  • Visit the Registration point at the CEP Unit
  • Generate RRR pin for application form fee payment
  • Take the RRR printout, to any Bank within the Campus and make payment of N10,000 for application form. Then
  • Go back to the registration point at the CEP Unit for online Registration.

 

RETURN OF COMPLETED FORMS

Candidate should then

  • Proceed to the CEP General Office to submit a photocopy of the online application form printout with photocopies of the claimed qualifications securely attached to the application form on or before Friday, 29th September 2017.

 

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Sale of forms commences on Tuesday 1st August, 2017 and ends on Friday 29th September, 2017.
  • There will be a Pre-Admission Examination
  • Candidate for Pre-Admission Examination must appear physically for Biometric Data Capturing at the CEP Unit Registration Centre from Friday 13th October to Friday 27th October 2017, at 8.00am daily.
  • Failure to appear for Biometric Capturing automatically disqualifies a candidate from participating in the Pre-Admission Examination.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria will hold its 47th Annual Accountants Conference from Monday, 16th October to Friday, 20th October, 2017.

 

As part of activities for the Conference, the Institute is organising an Essay Competition for students in any field of study in all ICAN accredited tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The title of the essay is “Accuracy and Integrity: The Unchanging Ican Motto in a rapidly changing world”.

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) Programme for 2017/2018 session.

 

The programme leads to the award of JUPEB Certificate which enables candidates gain Direct Entry Admissions into Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and other JUPEB-affiliated Universities in Nigeria and Abroad.

 

ELIGIBILITY

Eligible candidates must possess minimum of Credit Level Pass at maximum of two (2) sittings in at least 5 subjects (inclusive of English Language) relevant to the candidate’s desired course of study in the University.

The duration of the programme is one academic session of two semesters.

ii.      Click on create profile. Enter your Surname, First Name, Middle Name, Email, Phone number etc. and click on SUBMIT. A Registration number and password will be generated for you. Print or copy out both the Registration number and password for login and click on Finish to be redirected to the login page.

iii.   Enter the Registration Number as your username and the password as your password, and click on LOGIN.

iv.   Click on STEP ONE, click on Generate RRR. Your registration number name, email, phone number and application form fee of 15,000 naira will be displayed. Click on GENERATE.

v.   Print out your invoice and proceed to bank to make the required payment of 15,000 naira. The account number is the RRR number on your invoice

vi.   Visit the portal 2 hours after your bank payment, login with your Registration number and your password.

vii.   Click on STEP TWO, click on Confirm Payment. Your registration number, name, e-mail and phone number will be displayed. Enter the RRR number and click on VERIFY PAYMENT. You will see a notification: “payment verification successful” or “Transaction pending”. If your payment verification is successful proceed to (Viii), else retry (Vii) until the payment verification is successful.

viii.   Click on STEP THREE, click fill application form, fill out the application form and click on SUBMIT

The Faculty of Agriculture has lost one of its pioneer staff, Prof. Chukwunonso Elias Nnabuife, whose sad event occurred on Thursday, 27th of July 2017. He was aged 68 years. Until his death, he was the husband of Prof. Nnabuife, Ezimma Kate of the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences.  Burial Arrangement:  Monday, 25th September, 2017: Vigil Mass at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Chaplaincy, UNIZIK Temp Site @ 5pm; Wednesday, 27th September, 2017: Inter-religious service of songs/prayer session at his residence, No 1 Nnobi Street, Agu Awka, GRA, Awka @ 4pm; Thursday 28th September, 2017: Commendation service at the University Auditorium, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka @ 11am. Vigil Mass at his Nnewi Residence, 1 Edokwe Street, Obiuno Otolo Nnewi @ 5pm.; Friday 29th September, 2017: Funeral mass at St. James Catholic Church, Otolo, Nnewi @10am. FACULTY OF PHYSICAL SCIENCE LOSES STAFF

The Department of Physics and Industrial Physics has lost one of her staff, Mrs. Edith Ogunamba whose death occurred on Sunday, 30th July, 2017 at NAUTH Nnewi after a brief illness. Burial Arrangement: Wednesday, 30th August, 2017 – Wake-Keeping; Thursday, 31st August, 2017 – interment at Ogbunamba’s Compound, Irumkpoke Village, Nimo.

The department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus has lost one of her staff, Dr. Mrs. Monica Nonye Nwosu on Saturday, 22nd July, 2017.  Burial Arrangements: Wednesday, 23rd August, 2017 by 3.00 p.m. – Vigil Mass at her family compound, Amaeze Oraukwu; Thursday, 24th August, 2017 by 10.00 a.m. – funeral mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oraukwu.  Interment follows immediately at her family compound.

 

Emeritus Profesor Ogum Bows Out

Emeritus Professor Godwin Enwelum Onyemaeke Ogum, KSP has passed on.  He died after a brief illness on Friday, 14th July, 2017.  Burial arrangements will be communicated later.

 

Philosophy Department Loses Student

The Department of Philosophy has lost one of their 100 Level Students, Agu Jennifer with registration no. 2016084033.  The sad event took place on 10th of July, 2017.

Burial Arrangements: Friday, 25th August, 2017- 10.00amBurial Service Commences at her home town, late Elder Paul Okika’s Compound Uruorji Village Nri; Saturday, 26th and Sunday, 27th August, 2017 Condolence visit continues. Until her death, she was the mother of Okafor Ogochukwu of Senate Unit.

 

  • Chief Mrs. Virgina Okika ( Iyom Nwawulumaru), who died at the age of 74. Burial Arrangements: Friday 25th August 2017 – Body leaves Enugwu Ukwu general hospital mortuary for her home town; late Elder Paul Okika’s compound Uruorji village Nri for lying in state. Burial service commences at 10.00am. Interment follows immediately at her residence. Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August, 2017 – Condolence visits continue. Until her death, she was the mother of Mrs. Okafor Ogochukwu Esther of the Senate Unit, UNIZIK.

 

  • Timothy Anako Ikezue whose death occurred on Saturday, 29th of July, 2017. He will be buried on Friday, 22nd September, 2017 at his home town, Umueri in Ogbunike town. Until his death, he was the father of Dr. Clement Emeka Ikezue of the Department of Sociology/Anthropology.

 

  • Adline Elebeobasi Okafor who died on the 13th of June, 2017 at the age of 84. Until her death, she was the mother of Mrs. Florence T. Sibeudu, Department of Nursing Science. Burial Arrangements: 31st August, 2017 – Wake keep at her family village, Owerre Ezukalla Orumba South L. G. A., Anambra State; 1st September, 2017 – Body leaves Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital Ogidi to the family compound, Owerre Ezukalla, Funeral Service at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Owerre Ezukalla, Interment, condolence visits and entertainment at her family compound Ezukalla; 2nd September, 2017 – Thanksgiving Service at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Owerre Ezukalla.

 

  • Regina E. Analike who died on the 19th of June, 2017 at the age of 87. Until her death, she was the mother of Analike Francisca Ifeoma of Personnel Unit, College of Health Sciences, Nnewi Campus. Burial Arrangements:  Wednesday, 30th of August – Wake keep at her family compound at late Mr. Matthew Oformata Analike of Umukabia Village – Neni in Anaocha L. G. A.; 31st August – Body leaves St. Joseph Hospital Adazi-Nnukwu to her family compound, Neni for funeral service at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 2nd September – Condolence visit continues by in-laws and friends; 3rd September – Thanksgiving service at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Neni.
