UNIZIK SET TO ESTABLISH A STANDARD ZOO – UNIZIK VC, PROF. ESIMONE

Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka is set to establish a standard zoological garden, the first of its kind in the state.

This disclosure was made by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS, during an interaction with UNIZIK FM Correspondent Iyke Nwokedi.

Prof. Esimone stated that talks are in advance stages and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be concluded before the end of the month of June with a foreign based outfit who are involved in forestry, wildlife and conservation to establish a standard zoological garden which is lacking in the state. Prof. Esimone stated that he anticipates that the zoological garden will habour animals such as chimpanzees, monkeys, crocodiles, elephants and other animals seen in the wild.

Prof. Esimone enthused that this is part of his vision for Project 200 to further project the institution, create a total ambiance on what a university community should look like, as well as enhance the visibility of the Department of Forestry and Wildlife, Faculty of Agriculture of the institution. The Professor of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Microbiology also posited that the setting up of the standard zoo would serve as a tourist destination and source of revenue generation for the institution.
