PROF. NDUKWE OKORIE ELECTED AS DEAN OF THE FACULTY OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES

Prof. Okorie Okoro Ndukwe of the Department of Crop Science and Horticulture has been elected Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. The election was held on Tuesday, 24th June, 2025, at the Faculty Hall.

Prof. Ndukwe scored 50 votes, out of the 81 accredited votes, defeating Prof Caleb Ike Ezeano of the Department of Agri. Econs had 23 votes, Prof Josiah C. Okonkwo of the Department of Animal Science scored 7 votes, and Prof James Obiegbuna of the Department of Food Science and Technology got only 1 vote.
Prof. Ndukwe will succeed Prof. Cordelia Ebenebe as Dean of the Faculty.

Declaring the result, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi expressed satisfaction with the process. She also advised Prof Ndukwe to lead diplomatically and without fear or favour, to listen to people and their demands. She urged him to do what is expected of him without gratification, so that when he leaves, he will leave behind a legacy.

In his acceptance speech, Prof Okorie Ndukwe said he was happy with the smooth and successful election. He emphasised that the process of the election, which was peaceful, has ushered the Faculty into a more peaceful, focused and purpose-driven Faculty. He reiterated that he is willing to serve the Faculty in every capacity, and he urged the staff of the Faculty to continue the good works that have been ongoing and work with him to uplift the Faculty. He also told the Acting Vice-Chancellor that he is eager to work with her to lead the Faculty and, by association, the University higher.

In the company of the Acting Vice-Chancellor is the Acting Registrar, Mr Victor Modebelu and the forner Dean, Prof Ébène.
