Professor Mbanefo Ogene Inducted into the Nigerian Academy of Letters

Professor Mbanefo Ogene of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, has been formally inducted as a Member of the prestigious Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL).

The induction ceremony, held on Thursday, 13 August 2026, at the University of Lagos, Akoka Campus, Lagos, was witnessed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Alex Asigbo, alongside other distinguished professors of the University, some of whom are Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Letters.

The occasion attracted an array of distinguished personalities from academia, traditional institutions and the literary world, including His Royal Majesty, Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibn Umar Garba El-Kanemi; Professor Nwando Achebe, an Overseas Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters; and Professor Emeritus Femi Osofisan.

The ceremony was marked by intellectual distinction, pomp and pageantry, as colleagues, scholars, Fellows of the Academy and other dignitaries gathered to celebrate Professor Ogene's induction into one of Nigeria's foremost institutions dedicated to the advancement of literary scholarship and intellectual excellence.

The induction further highlights the contributions of Nnamdi Azikiwe University scholars to the advancement of knowledge, research and the humanities in Nigeria and beyond.
