The Student Union Government (SUG) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, including the Executives, Legislature, and Judiciary, recently paid a courtesy visit to their newly appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi, the first female to hold this position in the University’s history.
During the visit, SUG Vice-President Comrade Onyinyechi Nwachukwu Esther, along with other members, expressed their full support for Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi. She assured the Acting Vice-Chancellor that the SUG stands firmly behind her and will support the administration in every possible way.
SUG Senate President Comrade Ozoelam Precious Oluchukwu echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in seeing a woman in a leadership role and pledging the SUG’s cooperation. Chief Judge of the SUG, Comrade Prosper Nkwachukwu Ukabi, also conveyed his support for the Acting Vice-Chancellor.
In her response, Prof. Arinze-Umobi shared her past experience as a union leader, having served as both LAWSA President and SUG Vice-President during her time as a student. She emphasized the shared spirit of striving for progress and thanked the SUG for maintaining order on campus. She also promised to address any irregularities during her tenure as a mother and expressed readiness to support students’ interests.
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of commitment to the betterment of the university community.
