UNIZIK Management holds ICT Portals Training Workshop for Heads of Departments (HoDs)
Towards an efficient and effective digital transformation of UNIZIK, the management of the Nnamdi Azikiwe
University has organized a one-day ICT portal training workshop for the Heads of Departments and designated departmental ICT officers
The training which was held at the Retreat centre, Okpuno attracted a huge number of the Heads of Departments.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie in a welcome address reiterated the importance of building a greater UNIZIK through an ICT enhanced administration. He noted that the future of University administration is digital and the future of university administration is already here in UNIZIK.
The Vice-Chancellor reminded the Heads of Departments that they occupy the most critical operational position in the University. Prof Bond noted that the success or failure of many academic and administrative processes arrives at their desk hence the need to be ICT compliant. He frowned at managing the 21ST century University with 20TH Century methods.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the efforts of the University in embracing digital governance where actions are traceable, records are centrally maintained and management can obtain accurate information for timely decision-making.
He also noted the success on our graduating services which is being repositioned to provide coordinated access to transcripts statement of result, provisional and original certificate, online clearance, certificate verification, NYSC mobilization, alumni registration, etc.
Commenting further on the digital footprints of the University, the VC hailed the Computer. Based Testing system of the University which covers the full examination cycle: question preparation, candidate scheduling, biometric verification examination delivery, etc.
The Vice-Chancellor further noted the success of the introduction of an Al-Assisted result records and remarked that the strength of every digital system is ultimately determined by the quality, integrity and commitment of those who operate it.
He urged every participant to approach the workshop with an open-mind and charged them not only to participate and receive certificate, but to discharge their duties promptly.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the resource person Prof. Ibrahim Abdullahi for bringing his expertise and international experience to bear on the important capacity-building engagement. He concluded by stating that Digital transformation is not an ICT project
alone, but an institutional responsibility ;
It is not about replacing people with technology, but empowering people to work more efficiently, transparently and intelligently” he stated.
In all, he acknowledged that the smarter the HOD, the smarter the department and the smarter the faculty, the smarter the University.
Director, Management, Information and Communication Technology (MICTU) , Prof. Ikechukwu Onyenwe in an address noted that under the transformative ICT agenda of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Anyaehie, UNIZIK is deliberately building an integrated digital ecosystem that supports the complete journeys of its students and staff.
“The Online Clearance Portal is replacing the frustrating movement of paper files from office to office. Students can submit applications, monitor their progress and identify the exact office holding a request. Officers can approve or reject applications with clearly
recorded reasons. This creates transparency and eliminates the culture of 'come back tomorrow' without explanation” he stated.
“Can we claim to be building a twenty-first-century university while managing our departments with twentieth-century methods? Can a modern university remain competitive when students must carry files from one office to another, when approvals are delayed because an officer is unavailable, when records cannot be retrieved promptly, or when management decisions are made without reliable and real-time data? The answer is clear: the future of university administration is digital - and that future is already here at UNIZIK.” Prof Onyenwe stated.
A summary of the sessions indicated lecture on the student's life-cycle portal, graduating services, online clearance portal change of course portal, CIRMS portal, SLC memo and staff administrative memo, UNIZIK website structure, other departmental ICT services, practical demonstration and hands on exercise troubleshooting support and escalation question and feedback.
Amongst the speakers are the resource person, Prof. lbrahim Abdullahi, Professor of future Internet and Engineering Technologies, IBB University Lapai, Niger State.
