The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has reaffirmed the University's commitment to strategic partnerships that promote sustainable community development, healthcare, education and humanitarian service, following a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Rotary Club of UNIZIK, Awka.
The delegation, led by the Past District Governor of Rotary International, Rtn. Au. Nnonyelu, visited the Vice-Chancellor to strengthen the long-standing relationship between Rotary and the University while exploring new areas of collaboration in community development and service-oriented initiatives.
Speaking during the visit, Rtn. Nnonyelu commended Prof. Anyaehie for the remarkable progress recorded by the University since he assumed office, describing his leadership as visionary and impactful. He assured the Vice-Chancellor of Rotary's continued goodwill and unwavering support, noting that, as a fellow Rotarian, he could always count on the organisation's solidarity.
He explained that the visit was also intended to reaffirm Rotary's active presence and enduring impact within the University community. According to him, the organisation is founded on the principles of integrity, professionalism and selfless service, values that continue to guide its members in their personal and professional engagements.
Highlighting some of the Club's recent humanitarian interventions, Rtn. Nnonyelu disclosed that Rotary recently organised a medical outreach in Nnewi, where nursing mothers received healthcare support. He emphasised that the Club remains committed to making meaningful and lasting contributions to every community it serves.
Also speaking, the District Governor Nominee, Rtn. Kalu Peters, reiterated Rotary International's dedication to its seven areas of focus, namely peacebuilding and conflict prevention, disease prevention and treatment, water, sanitation and hygiene, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, community economic development, and environmental protection.
He observed that Nnamdi Azikiwe University is already making significant strides in many of these areas and expressed the Club's desire to collaborate with the institution, particularly in expanding healthcare initiatives across the Awka and Nnewi campuses. He further revealed that discussions were ongoing towards establishing a Peace Centre in the University to promote dialogue, leadership development and conflict resolution.
Rtn. Peters also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his consistent support of Rotary activities, including his contributions that earned him recognition as a Major Donor. On behalf of the District Governor, he thanked Prof. Anyaehie for receiving the delegation and expressed confidence that the partnership between Rotary and the University would continue to flourish.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and for their continued confidence in his administration. He described Rotary International as a globally respected humanitarian organisation whose ideals of service, integrity and compassion align closely with the vision and mission of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
Prof. Anyaehie noted that true leadership is measured not by titles or accolades but by the positive impact one makes in the lives of others. He stressed that the greatest fulfilment in leadership comes from creating opportunities, transforming lives and making meaningful contributions to society.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, selfless service remains the hallmark of transformational leadership, adding that recognition should never be the driving force behind service to humanity. Rather, he said, genuine leadership is inspired by the desire to improve communities and advance the common good.
He reaffirmed the University's commitment to initiatives that promote education, healthcare, innovation, peacebuilding and sustainable development, while pledging continued support for Rotary's humanitarian programmes. He also assured the delegation of the University's readiness to deepen collaboration in areas of shared interest for the benefit of both the University community and society at large.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a Rotary roll-up banner to the Vice-Chancellor in recognition of his outstanding support for Rotary International and its humanitarian initiatives.
