UNIZIK VC Receives Council Team Ahead of Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Exercise

 

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Stanley Anyaehie, has received an accreditation team from the Nursing and Midwifery Council  on a courtesy visit ahead of the accreditation exercise for the University’s Faculty of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery.

 

The team was received by the Vice-Chancellor at the University Council Chamber on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

 

 

Speaking on behalf of the accreditation team, the Team Leader, Prof. Margaret Mombel Opiah, said the team was at the University not to witch-hunt or find fault with individuals, but to assess the institution and ensure that its programmes and facilities meet the required standards for the accreditation of nursing sciences and midwifery.

 

Prof. Opiah urged the University to remain committed to maintaining and improving standards in the training of nursing and midwifery students, stressing that the professions are critical to the preservation and saving of human lives.

 

She noted that nursing and midwifery are important fields that require adequate attention, quality training and facilities capable of producing competent professionals.

 

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anyaehie, expressed his support for accreditation exercises, describing them as important mechanisms for maintaining high standards in the university system.

 

Prof. Anyaehie said his administration was committed to strengthening nursing, midwifery and other academic programmes and facilities at Nnamdi Azikiwe University to enable them to compete favourably at the global level.

 

According to him, the University is exploring opportunities to expose its nursing students to international training and experiences. He disclosed plans to facilitate training opportunities for UNIZIK nursing students in the United Kingdom, Rwanda and India.

 

The Vice-Chancellor further described nursing as a highly valuable profession with significant opportunities and potential, noting that the increasing interest in the profession shows its importance in the healthcare sector.

 

Prof. Anyaehie welcomed the accreditation team to the University and assured them of the institution’s cooperation throughout the accreditation exercise.

 

The accreditation exercise is expected to provide an assessment of the University’s nursing and midwifery programmes, facilities and other requirements in line with the prescribed standards.

 

The delegation was introduced by the Director of Academic Planning, Prof Angela Nwogor Ufele –Obiesie in the presence of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Alex Asigbo, Dean, Faculty of Nursing Sciences , Prof. Florence Sibeudu and the Director, Information and Public Relations, Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah  among others.
