Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has received a four-man team from the National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja, who were on a Post Matriculation Exercise Monitoring visit to the university.
Receiving the delegation in his office on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor, who welcomed the team with open arms, assured them of the cooperation of the university officials for their seamless assignment.
He disclosed that Nnamdi Azikiwe University under his watch maintains strict admission regulation guidelines as prescribed by the National Universities Commission and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
He said the administration maintains academic excellence while also placing much importance on both staff and students’ welfare. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic integrity, transparency, and high-quality standards. While wishing the team a successful exercise, the Vice-Chancellor restated that this year’s admission process in the university will be guided strictly by merit, adherence to carrying capacity quota and prescribed minimum entry requirements by NUC and JAMB.
"Nnamdi Azikiwe University remains fully committed to upholding the operational standards laid down by the NUC. Monitoring exercises of this nature are crucial for maintaining institutional credibility and ensuring that our academic programs continue to meet national benchmark standards," the Vice-Chancellor noted
He said the administration is intentional in creating an enabling environment in the university where knowledge and research thrive with a productive and happy staff.
The Team Leader of the NUC delegation, Dr Okafor Ogechukwu, told the Vice-Chancellor that the team were at Nnamdi Azikiwe University as part of the NUC mandate on the Post-Matriculation Monitoring Exercise in Nigerian Universities.
She disclosed that the NUC, as part of its statutory mandate of quality assurance in the Nigerian University system and in line with best practices, conducts a post-matriculation monitoring exercise in Nigerian universities, an exercise aimed at verifying the integrity of the admission process and confirming that students admitted into the various programmes of the university were duly processed through the approved channels.
The team leader said the need for the exercise arose from the Commission’s responsibility to ensure that universities admit only candidates who met the prescribed minimum entry requirements, operate strictly within their approved carrying capacities and admission quotas and conduct admissions exclusively through the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
Dr Okafor reiterated that the team were not on any witch-hunting exercise but will accordingly examine the eligibility of admitted students, the regularity of their matriculation, the adequacy of teaching and learning and the general compliance of the university with extant admission guidelines.
Earlier, the Director of Academic Planning (DAP), Prof. Angela Ufele-Obiesie, while introducing the delegation to the Vice-Chancellor, disclosed that the team will carry out their assignment in the university between 28th and 31st July 2026. She expressed optimism that the university, being a law-abiding institution and through the concerted efforts of the Prof. Anyaehie administration, will not only come tops in the assessment report of the NUC team but will continue to set the pace among other universities in Nigeria.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Alex Asigbo and the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, were part of the university management team that received the delegation.
Other members of the NUC delegation included Gloria Opara-Emeka and Arome Joseph Wada.
