Akwa Ibom Staff Union UNIZIK Commends VC Anyaehie’s Reforms, Pledges Sustained Support
The Akwa Ibom State Staff Union (AKISSU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for his leadership strides and ongoing efforts to reposition the University, pledging its continued support and cooperation with his administration.
The union made this known on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, when members of AKISSU-NAU, led by its President, Mr. Nsikak Sunday Awah, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Awah congratulated Prof. Anyaehie on his emergence as the 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University, describing his appointment as a recognition of his values, achievements and contributions to the development of the institution.
He commended the Vice-Chancellor’s initiatives in staff welfare, digitalisation, physical infrastructure and the introduction of new academic programmes, noting that the reforms demonstrated his commitment to advancing the University.
Awah said the Vice-Chancellor’s vision, encapsulated in the B.O.N.D. agenda — Boldness, Opportunity, Networking and Development — provided a strong pathway for unprecedented growth and greater global recognition for Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

He reaffirmed the union’s commitment to the administration, assuring the Vice-Chancellor that Akwa Ibom indigenes working in the University would continue to discharge their responsibilities diligently and contribute meaningfully to the institution’s development.
“We promise to support you and your administration in all aspects by doing our work diligently,” Awah said, adding that the union would continue to cooperate with the administration in its efforts to take the University to greater heights.
He also prayed for God’s guidance and wisdom for the Vice-Chancellor as he leads the institution, expressing the hope that his tenure would be impactful and memorable.
Responding, Prof. Anyaehie thanked the union for the visit and for the gift presented to him, expressing appreciation for the goodwill and support of the Akwa Ibom community towards the University.
The Vice-Chancellor described AKISSU and the University administration as “partners in progress,” assuring the delegation of his willingness to sustain a cordial and mutually beneficial relationship with its members.
Prof. Anyaehie noted that the Akwa Ibom people had remained valuable contributors to the University’s progress and expressed his readiness to continue engaging with them to promote mutual understanding, cooperation and institutional development.

The Vice-Chancellor’s remarks further underscored his administration’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative relationship with staff groups and other stakeholders in pursuit of the University’s development agenda.

Members of the delegation included Udoh, Mfon Okon, Prof. E. E. Bassey, Bassey Daniel E., Mfon U. Akpan, Ekanem Chris, Esekak A. Thompson, Dr. Nnamnso Peter Udoudo, Dr. Nma Ogechuckwu Okonoji and Tom Harrison.
