TEAM UNIZIK TO THE GLOBAL STAGE
TEAM UNIZIK ARRIVES CAIRO FOR 2026 FASU GAMES, SET FOR THREE SPORTING EVENTS
Team Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has officially arrived in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of the 2026 Fédération Africaine du Sport Universitaire (FASU) Games, scheduled to take place from September 7 to 17, 2026.
The university contingent, representing UNIZIK at the prestigious continental university sports festival, is led by the Chairman of the University Sports Committee (USC) and Head of Delegation, Prof. Dereck Orji, while the Acting Director of Sports, Mrs. Anthonia Chukwudi, is also part of the delegation.
Team UNIZIK will compete in three sporting disciplines at the Games: Women's Football, Taekwondo, and Athletics, with the athletes expected to showcase the university's growing strength and competitiveness in sports on the continental stage.
The team's participation follows weeks of intensive preparations, including competitive warm-up matches and tournaments aimed at improving the athletes' physical fitness, tactical awareness, confidence and overall readiness for the demanding competition.
The arrival of the contingent in Cairo marks another significant milestone in the university's renewed commitment to sports development and international participation.
The Sports Directorate has expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for his exceptional support and commitment to the development of sports in the university. His administration's continued investment in student sports has provided a strong platform for UNIZIK athletes to compete at national and international levels.
The Directorate also acknowledges the contributions of the various supporters and donors whose financial and material assistance helped make the team's participation in the 2026 FASU Games possible.
As the Games get underway, the university community looks forward to an outstanding performance from Team UNIZIK and wishes all the athletes and officials a successful and memorable outing in Cairo.
