Alpha Circle Club Supports 15 UNIZIK Students with ₦3m Scholarship
The Alpha Circle Club of Lagos State has supported 15 students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, with the sum of ₦3 million as part of its 2026 Outreach Programme.
The beneficiaries, comprising indigent students and students with outstanding academic records, each received ₦200,000 to support their education and encourage continued academic excellence.
Speaking during the presentation, the Chairman, 2026 Charity Visit of Alpha Circle Club, Hon. Ben Anyanwu, said the initiative was borne out of the Club’s desire to invest in the future by supporting Nigerian students who, despite their academic potential, may be constrained by financial difficulties.
Anyanwu said Alpha Circle Club had, for over 35 years, undertaken charitable activities across the country, noting that the Club decided to extend its intervention this year to students in tertiary institutions. He explained that the intervention focused on providing financial support to indigent students to enable them remain in school and complete their studies, recognising students with outstanding academic records, as well as continuing the Club’s visits to charity and orphanage homes.
According to him, the beneficiaries were selected by the University based on criteria agreed upon with Alpha Circle Club, stressing that the Club deliberately left the selection process to the institution to ensure that those who truly qualified benefited.
Responding on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Hilda Osisioma, expressed delight at the gesture, describing it as a ray of light at a time when acts of charity appeared to be less common.
Prof. Osisioma commended Alpha Circle Club for identifying and supporting indigent students, as well as encouraging students who had distinguished themselves academically, noting that the intervention would motivate the beneficiaries to do more.
She charged the outstanding students to sustain their academic performance, urging them to “keep it up,” while encouraging the indigent beneficiaries to strive towards becoming outstanding students and to justify the confidence reposed in them by Alpha Circle Club and the University.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor further appreciated the Club for choosing UNIZIK as one of the beneficiaries of its 2026 outreach, noting that the gesture would contribute positively to the students’ educational pursuits.
Also speaking, the President, Alpha Circle Club of Lagos, Hon. Leo Okafor, said the Club’s decision to extend its charitable activities to students was informed by the understanding that investing in education was a way of investing in the future.
Okafor, who said he had personally experienced the impact of educational scholarships through his children, disclosed that the current intervention was only the beginning, as the Club planned to develop a more structured scholarship programme in subsequent years to support students from their first year through graduation.
Dean of Students Affairs, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Kingsley Ubaoji in a remark while also appreciating the Alpha Circle Club, Lagos, for their noble gesture described the positive development as one of the manifestations of the Students’ First Mantra of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie.
“The Students First Mantra of the VC is working and the Students Affairs are in love with that mantra. We are so poised, determined and focused on ensuring that welfare and the voice of the students are not drowned anymore by anything.
“One of the ways to ensure this is by supporting quality and holistic education for all especially the poor in our society. Remember, we all MUST coexist in the same society which we abandon them... Thank you Alpha Circle Club, Lagos for this support” Prof. Ubaoji said.
One of the beneficiaries, Ezuma Childera Danie of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, thanked Alpha Circle Club for the support, describing it as an encouragement to students from different backgrounds facing financial challenges.
Danie pledged to make the most of the opportunity and continue striving for academic excellence.
The students scholarship beneficiaries included: Anagor Juliet Chineye, Robinson Leelee Elyon, Chukwuemaka Ebubejesus Emmanuel, Ose Chibuike Esheya, Nwakalor Onyinyechi, Lawrence-Uba Faithful Chijindu, amongst others.
Other members of the delegation include: Hon Innocent Okparoka, Member, 2026 Charity Outreach; Sir Chiaka Okari, PRO; Dr Nnubia Agatha Chizoba, Anchor, Department of Mathematics, NAU; Iyke Isiekwere, Uni Secretary, Scholarship Board; Okechuckwu Emmanuel I. and Dr Chika Nnabuife.
