Bishop Udogu Assures Prof. Anyaehie of Church’s Support, Commends UNIZIK Transformation

 

The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Afikpo, Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul A. Udogu, has congratulated the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie, on his appointment, describing his emergence as timely for the University and expressing confidence in his capacity to lead the institution.

 

Rt. Rev. Udogu stated this when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor at his office.

 

The Bishop who described himself as a product of Nnamdi Azikiwe University having  obtained his Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the institution  expressed delight over Prof. Anyaehie’s  emergence as Vice-Chancellor and commended the transformation and restructuring efforts being undertaken by his administration.

 

 According to him, the visit was also an opportunity to appreciate God for the strength given to the Vice-Chancellor to lead the University and to offer prayers for wisdom, strength and guidance as he navigates the responsibilities and challenges of his tenure.

 

Rt. Rev. Udogu assured Prof. Anyaehie of the continued support and prayers of the Anglican Diocese of Afikpo, noting that although expectations were high, the Diocese was confident in his ability to meet and surpass them.

 

He presented copies of the Igbo Bible to the Vice Chancellor urging him in line with the scriptural guidelines to study and meditate on the word of God at all times.

 

He further expressed hope that the Vice-Chancellor would be guided in selecting individuals of integrity and competence to work with him, stressing that a successful administration would ultimately translate to success for all stakeholders.

 

Responding, Prof. Anyaehie thanked the Bishop and his delegation for the visit, describing their encouragement and support as meaningful to the work of rebuilding and repositioning the University.

 

The Vice-Chancellor, who emphasised the importance of his Christian faith in his approach to leadership, said his decisions in office were guided by the values of integrity, diligence and responsibility.

 

He expressed his willingness to work with diligent individuals who would contribute positively to the administration and speak up when they observed that things were not going in the right direction.

 

Prof. Anyaehie appealed to the delegation to continue to remember him in their prayers, assuring them that he would strive to carry all stakeholders along in his administration.

 

 

Members of the delegation included Prof. Emma Ezewaji, Director, Water Centre; Prof. Philomena Igbokwe, Director, School of General Studies; The Rev'd Daniel Mokwenye, Chaplain to the Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Afikpo; Ven. Dr. Michael Emerionwu, Diocesan Canon Theologian, Anglican Diocese of Afikpo; and Prof. Chinonso Achebe former Dean of Students Affairs.

 

The visit ended with prayers and episcopal blessings for the Vice Chancellor by the Bishop.
