UNIZIK Students Emerge First Runner-Up at the 2026 Policy Challenge

Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) have emerged First Runner-Up at the 2026 Policy Challenge, a national platform that brings together young Nigerians to develop and defend practical policy solutions to pressing national challenges.

Following a rigorous selection process, only five universities advanced to the national finals, with Veritas University emerging as the overall winner, followed by Nnamdi Azikiwe University as First Runner-Up, finishing ahead of the University of Lagos, Adeleke University, and Nile University.

Representing UNIZIK was Team Astrum, comprising Tony-Igwe Onyinye, a 300-level Economics student, and Shadrach Chidike, a 400-level Mechanical Engineering student. After progressing through the various stages of the competition, the team presented and defended their policy proposal focused on reforming Nigeria’s electricity sector before a panel of judges.

Their strong performance earned UNIZIK the position of First Runner-Up, placing the university among the top two institutions in the competition.

The achievement reflects the intellectual capacity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and commitment of UNIZIK students to developing practical solutions to some of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges.

Congratulations to Shadrach and Onyinye on this outstanding achievement and for representing Nnamdi Azikiwe University with distinction.
