The 120th Inaugural Lecture of Unizik: Sustainability Accounting Key to Nigeria’s Peace & Security
by Prof. Tochukwu Gloria Orji-Okafor
At UNIZIK’s 120th Inaugural Lecture, Professor Tochukwu Gloria Orji-Okafor called for the adoption of Sustainability Accounting as a vital tool for strengthening Nigeria’s economic stability, peace, and national security.
Speaking on “Sustainability Accounting, Peace and Security: The Linkages and Implications for Sustainable Development—Nigeria in Focus,” she stressed that traditional financial reporting is no longer enough in the face of environmental degradation and social unrest.
She advocated the triple bottom line approach—people, planet, and profit—arguing that transparency in environmental and social impacts can help reduce resource-based conflicts and promote sustainable development.
The lecture, held on January 22, 2026, was praised by UNIZIK management as timely, impactful, and a valuable guide for policy and accounting reforms aligned with global sustainability goals.
