International Conference on African Entrepreneurship and Innovation for Sustainable Development (AEISD)

The 2017 International Conference on African entrepreneurship and Innovation for Sustainable Development (AEISD) to be hosted by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria welcomes papers from scholars, entrepreneurs, graduate students, managers and policy makers on entrepreneurship and innovation issues pertinent to a vibrant and sustainable economic development of Africa. This conference aims at bridging the gap between entrepreneurial policy and actionable entrepreneurship for Africa’s economic development.

Conference Theme – “The Promise of Actionable Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Economic Development in Africa: Leadership, Governance, and Ethics.”

The 2017 theme highlights the need to establish accessible pathways for sustainable entrepreneurship success and wealth creation to alleviate chronic poverty in Africa. Focus areas of the conference include government policies to promote entrepreneurship, access to finance, education and training, commercial and professional infrastructure, openness of internal markets, physical infrastructure, and the Triple-Helix of University-Industry-Government Partnerships.

The conference also encourages papers on topics listed above as well as actual case studies of entrepreneurship and success stories in entrepreneurship from around the world. University-based centers for entrepreneurship as especially invited to share bridge-building efforts from their local communities.

Pre-Conference Faculty Development Workshop on Journal Publication Strategies is also planned as part of the conference. The aim of the workshop is to mentor aspiring authors who wish to publish their manuscripts from the conference as well other papers in refereed journals. Workshop will be moderated by leading scholars who will share proven ways to successfully publish journal articles.

A Post-Conference Entrepreneurship Workshop for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2-4pm. Guidelines for Manuscript Submissions

  1. Full Papers should be submitted electronically to the appropriate track chair. All submissions should be in Microsoft Word format and must be received by May 1, 2017. Proposals and Abstracts for special sessions should be submitted electronically to the Program Chair in Microsoft Word by May 15,2017. Special sessions must include a panel of three speakers along with rationale for the session.
  2. Full papers must not exceed 10 single-spaced pages (Times New Roman, font 12), including the title, tables, figures, appendices, references, and other illustrative materials.
  3. All papers should have an Abstract (maximum of 190 words), as well as an Introduction. Each paper should indicate the title of the paper, author(s)’ names and institutional affiliation, and email addresses.
  4. Please use single column, one-inch margins (1”) all-round: Top, bottom, left, and right. References and citations should be prepared in accordance with APA Publication Manual 5th Edition.
  5. All papers will be peer reviewed and selected papers will be included on the Proceedings CD and considered for the Conference Best Paper Awards.
  6. A paper template is attached on the last page to assist you in getting your paper ready for publication in the Conference Proceedings.
  7. Selected papers will be invited to submit their manuscripts for further review and publication in the inaugural issue of the Journal of African Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

Special Sessions: Given the growing importance of entrepreneurship in Africa, we invite participants who are interested in organizing a special session to submit a description of its overall purpose and include the abstracts of the different contributions. A special session should have at least 3 speakers. Special session proposals must also state the purpose, format and names of all presenters. All special session proposals should be submitted to the program chair.

Post-graduate students are highly encouraged to attend the conference and request submissions of papers via the conference portal. Post-graduate students will benefit by participating through opportunity to network with participants from around the world. Each post-graduate student’s paper will be considered for Post-Graduate Student Best Paper Awards.

The City of Awka is located in Anambra State. Conference attendees are advised to fly into Enugu International Airport and take a shuttle service to Awka.
