2024 SUG Elections: Comrade Samuel Messiah Eze Declared President-Elect

Samuel Messiah Eze, a student from the Department of Building, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, has been declared the President-elect following the recently concluded elections for the Students Union Government (SUG) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, for the 2023/24 academic session.

The results were announced by the returning officer, Professor Makodi Biereenu-Nnabugwu, who is also the Dean of the Student Affairs Unit. Comrade Eze secured a total of 1,354 votes, surpassing his competitors, Solomon Omachionu Offor from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, who garnered 1,111 votes, and Emmanuel Ezechukwu from the Department of Philosophy, who received 154 votes.

The election, which took place virtually on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, saw a significant turnout, as confirmed by data from the Election Monitoring Room located within the Student Affairs Unit.

In other election outcomes, Favour Chioma Chidi from the Department of History and International Studies was elected Vice President with 1,666 votes. Chioma Ohiaeri of the Department of English Language and Literature secured 1,302 votes to become the Secretary General. Queendalyn Ugonma Omeje from the Faculty of Law was elected Assistant Secretary with 1,583 votes.

Francis Ajaegbu from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology was elected as Financial Secretary with 2,386 votes. Hillary Onwuasoizu of the Department of Computer Science won the position of Public Relations Officer with 1,317 votes, while Patrick Onwuegbule from the Department of Civil Engineering secured the role of Director of Welfare/Socials with 2,447 votes.

Favour Chinonso Ogidi from the Department of Parasitology and Entomology was elected Treasurer with 1,232 votes, and Favour Mmesoma Uchigbue from the Department of Human Kinetics was elected Director of Sports with 2,345 votes.
