At the LAWSA Dinner, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor charges Law Students to prepare for Life after Graduation.
The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, attended the annual dinner of the Law Students’ Association (LAWSA) with a charge to the law students to not only prepare for the vicissitudes of life after graduation but also remember they are being prepared to face the world and succeed.
Addressing the students, Prof. Anyaehie encouraged them to maintain good character throughout their academic journey and to begin preparing for life beyond the university. He reminded them that while they pass through school, they should also allow the values and discipline of education to shape their lives.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the aspiring legal practitioners to equip themselves with the skills and resilience needed to navigate the realities of the legal profession and the challenges of the wider society after graduation.
According to him, understanding the demands of life outside the university would help them make informed decisions and adapt successfully to their future careers.
In a light-hearted remark that drew laughter from the audience, Prof. Anyaehie noted that “fools make lawyers rich,” expressing his hope that the students would prosper in their chosen profession through diligence, competence, and integrity.
He also charged the students not to forget their alma mater after achieving success in their various careers, urging them to give back to the institution that contributed to their academic and professional development.
“Do not be far from us and we will not be far from you too. Every day, we might meet to write references for you, your transcript, etc. But apart from that, when you make it in life, do not forget your alma mater. And in whatever you are doing, also know that your profession is service to humanity. My father did tell me those days that fools make lawyers rich, and that is why alternative dispute resolution is encouraged. Thank you for inviting me, as I pray we continue to work together as God leads us,” the Vice Chancellor stated.
The annual LAWSA dinner concluded with celebrations, networking, and renewed commitment among students to uphold the ideals of the legal profession and the values of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
The annual gathering brought together students, lecturers, HODs and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, faculty members, law alumni, and distinguished guests to celebrate academic excellence, foster unity, and recognise outstanding achievements within the Faculty of Law.
A major highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards and endowments to students who distinguished themselves in various academic and extracurricular categories, in recognition of their exceptional performances and contributions to the faculty.
The University Chief Legal Officer, Dr Reginald Uzoechi, endowed a prize of a one-year tuition scholarship for a student leader whose leadership inspires without seeking personal aggrandisement.
