The Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, Anambra State Chapter has conferred an Award of Excellence to distinguished Nigerians during its 2017 Reputation Summit and Inauguration of its 10th Executive members, held at Parktonia Hotel, Awka recently.
Speaking during the summit, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr. Willie M. Obiano represented by the Commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Chief Tony Nnacheta said that the institute is growing stronger in the State. He applauded the institute for choosing awardees that have distinguished themselves in their area of endeavors. Welcoming all, the Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku, FAS, said he was delighted to be part of the epic making event. He commended the Institute on the choice of the theme for the summit, which he said was quite apt because it will inspire all to start doing things with their divinely given skills. Furthermore, Prof. Ahaneku noted that the institute is very important in the society because they can either make or mar any nation through its communication. He urged Journalists to always demonstrate their skills in such a way that will foster unity and oneness in the country. Finally, he said he was optimistic that the summit will give public relations personnel new ideas that will help to restructure and refocus the media for the betterment of the Nation.

Reputation, she said, is earned over-time and not bought or gotten through propaganda. According to her, for an entrepreneur to succeed, she enumerated the following factors, knowing ones Strength and Weakness, looking out for Opportunities and Threat in the business and as well as its Time bound (SWOTT) to facilitate success.
Prof. Okunna spoke on the need to coordinate the affairs of Public Relations, so as not to mar the reputation of the institute and the country. She stated the need for a strategic communication for Nigeria to bounce back out of recession.
Speaking also, the National President and Chairman of Council of NIPR, Rotimi Oladele represented by the Chairman, Board of Fellows NIPR, Frank Tamunor Koko thanked the chapter for organizing the summit and their choice of theme. He said he was pleased to see students from two different institutions and implored the chapter to go to institutions in order to form the institute, for that is the only way they will have successors in future. He also commended the Chapter for their good work and prayed that they will continue to grow from strength to strength.
Earlier, the Chairman of NIPR, Anambra State Chapter, Lady Chinwe Nnedum (JP) specially welcomed and appreciated all for coming. The Summit, she said has lifted NIPR in the state to the next level. Spondylolysis is defined as a defect or stress fracture in the pars interarticularis of the vertebral arch. The vast majority of cases occur in the lower lumbar vertebrae , but spondylolysis may also occur in the cervical vertebrae.
Signs and symptoms
In majority of cases, spondylolysis presents asymptomatically which can make diagnosis both difficult and incidental. When a patient does present with its symptoms, there are general signs and symptoms a clinician will look for:
Clinical Signs:
· Pain on completion of the stork test (placed in hyperextension and rotation)
· Excessive posture
· Unilateral tenderness on palpation
· Visible on diagnostic imaging (Scottie dog fracture)
Symptoms:
· Unilateral low back pain
· Pain that radiates into the buttocks or legs
· Onset of pain can be acute or gradual
· Pain that can restrict daily activities
· Pain that worsens after strenuous activity
· Pain aggravated with lumbar hyperextension
Cause
The cause of spondylolysis remains unknown, however many factors are thought to contribute to its development. The condition is present in up to 6% of the population, the majority of which usually present asymptomatically. Research supports that there are hereditary and acquired risk factors that can make one more susceptible to the defect. The disorder is generally more prevalent in males compared to females, and tends to occur earlier in males due to their involvement in more strenuous activities at a younger age.
Risk factors
Sports involving repetitive or forceful hyperextension of the spine, especially when combined with rotation are the main mechanism of injury for spondylolysis. Spondylolysis has a higher occurrence in the following activities: Baseball, Tennis, Diving, Gymnastics, Football, Soccer, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Cricket, Volleyball, Gym.
Diagnosis
There are several imaging techniques used to diagnose spondylolysis. Common imaging techniques include X-ray, MRI, Bone Scintigraphy (Bone Scan), and Computed Tomography (CT Scan). Qualified health care practitioners are also able to conduct clinical tests such as the one-legged hyperextension test to diagnose active spondylolysis. Others include;
Activity restriction
Activity restriction of spondylolysis is advised for a short period of time once the patient becomes symptomatic, followed by a guided physical therapy program. Once spondylolysis has been diagnosed, treatment often consists of a short rest period of two to three days, followed by a physical therapy program. There should be restriction of heavy lifting, excessive bending, twisting and avoidance of any work, recreational activities or participation in sport that causes stress to the lumbar spine. Activity restriction can help eliminate and control a patient’s symptoms so they are able to resume their normal activities. Activity restriction is most commonly used in conjunction with other rehabilitation techniques including bracing.
Surgery
Most patients with spondylolysis do not require surgery but, if the symptoms are not relieved with non-surgical treatments, or when the condition progresses to high grade spondylolisthesis, then patients may require surgery.
