The Director, UNIZIK Business School Prof. Au. Nonyelu and the UNIZIK Chapter Chairman of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), Mr. Chinedu Eliyahs were on Thursday, the 25th day of May, 2017 elected to represent the Teaching and the Non-teaching staff of the University at the 8th Governing Council respectively.

The election was adjudged peaceful, free and credibly witnessed a massive turn out of the University staff.

The election which was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku had a total number of one thousand, three hundred and sixteen (1316) accredited voters.

Prof. Nonyelu and Comr. Eliyahs emerged winners defeating 10 other nominees with a total of 823 and 335 votes respectively.

Earlier in his address, Prof. Ahaneku commended the University staff for exhibiting great enthusiasm in the electoral process which according to him, signals their belief and love for the advancement and progress of the university. He urged them to also exhibit such level of enthusiasm in discharging their primary assignment.

Speaking shortly after the election, Prof. Nonyelu expressed his joy and love for the support exhibited by the University staff. He promised not to let down the trust bestowed on him and his counterpart.

The senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in its 184th meeting held on 22nd May, 2017 elected representatives in the 8th University Governing Council.

The election which was Chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, FAS and held at the university auditorium was adjudged peaceful.

The election saw the senators nominating 14 persons of whom include;

Prof. Charles Onyenekwe, Prof. Godson Okafor, Prof. Ngozi Anyikwa, Prof. Igwebuike Victor Onyiorah, Prof. Charles Nwadigwe, Prof. Tracie Utoh-Ezeajugh and Prof. Eric Ofoedu. Other nominees include; Prof. C. C Ihueze, Prof. Ada Omenyi, Prof. O. O Udemezue, Prof. Stan Udedi, Prof. Peter C Nnabude, Prof. Mmaduabuchi Dukor and Prof. Makodi Bierenu Nnabugwu.

The result of the election as casted by 262 senators who were accredited, saw Prof. Ngozi Anyikwa taking the lead with 133 votes, preceded by Prof. Peter Nnabude who got 112 votes, this was followed by Prof. Okwudili Udemezue who pulled 89 votes. There was a tie between Prof. Ada Omenyi and Prof. Stan Udedi as both pulled 88 votes each. This led to the chairman declaring a run-off to determine the 4th person.

At the end of the run-off in which 162 senators participated, Prof. Ada Omenyi pulled 89 votes to defeat Prof. Stan Udedi who pulled 70 votes.

Hence, Professors Ngozi Anyikwa, Peter Nnabude, Okwudili Udemezue and Ada Omenyi stood elected to represent the senate in the 8th Governing Council of the university.

Earlier in his address, shortly before the elections, Prof. Ahaneku stressed that the purpose of the senate meeting is to take key decisions that would propel the institution to enviable pedestal. Also, he said in his words, “We are here for the progress, unity and peace of this institution, for our children, for the Nigerian public and to make our mark. We are here for the development of our university.

“The idea of not being part of the system, excluding oneself in the scheme of things will render the individual or unit where the persons serve inactive, sub optimal, inefficient and at the very end, would reduce the interest or zeal of reaching and breaking new grounds. Hence, Let’s make out contributions as passers-by in this institution. Right or wrong contributions, posterity would judge us”, Ahaneku stated.

Recalling the decision of the senate on the publishing of results after one month, Prof. Ahaneku stressed that the decision stands urging all the heads of departments to adhere strictly to the decision, salaries of defaulter shall be withheld.

Prof. Ahaneku further called on the lecturers to fulfill their obligations to the students by attending at least 75% of their lectures. He frowned at the attitude of forcing students to buy books written by the lecturers, stating that any good teacher would recommend standard texts and not the other way round.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku, FAS together with twelve others have been honoured with an award, by the Department of Guidance and Counseling for outstanding contributions to human development, during the department’s interactive session. The session had the theme “Counseling for sustainable human development.”

Speaking during the ceremony, the HOD, Dr. Chinyelu Nwokolo thanked God for making the day a reality. She said the interactive session was for all the staff, graduate, and undergraduate students of the department, aimed at discussing issues crippling the developmental rate of individuals, and bridging the gap between the students and staff of the department.

During his acceptance speech, the VC said he was excited to be honoured. He said for one to survive in life, there is need for a good teacher and a counselor; hence the students should count themselves lucky to find themselves in their present discipline. He encouraged the students to always believe in themselves and to have confidence in what they believe as well. Prof. Ahaneku thanked the Department and the Faculty for effort towards moulding a human person for a better Nigeria and the world at large. The University he said would make effort to mount the course options that has not begun in the Faculty.

Speaking also, the Director of Chike Okoli for Entrepreneurial Studies, Prof. Ngozi Anyikwa admonished the students on the importance of skill acquisition through which they could be empowered. She said that there are no barriers on their path, except the ones they create for themselves. More so, she opined that mindset, action and processes encompass entrepreneurship. The Director urged the students to always set up goals for themselves for time wasted can never be recovered.

The Chairman of the event, Prof. Chris Anyamene thanked the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Nkechi Esomonu, the HOD, Staff and students of the Department of Guidance and Counseling for organizing the event.

Dr. Ada Anyamene who was one of the awardees, thanked the Department and the Faculty for the Award and promised that they will do all within their powers to uphold the legalizies of the Department and the University at large. She prayed for successful journey back home for all.

Other awardees from the Department were; the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Nkechi P. Esomonu, Prof. C.A. Nwankwo, Sir Oguabia Joseph, Rev. Sis Sussana Obineli among many others. There was a dance performance by the students of the Department.

The 500 level students of the Department of Nursing Science, College of Health Sciences Nnewi has tendered their apology over gross misconduct during the period of their ophthalmology posting at the Guineas Eye Clinic, Onitsha.

The students, while reacting to the penalty slammed on them by the University Management, attributed their act to youthful exuberance.

In a letter addressed to Guinness Eye Clinic, the students accepted their misdeeds and pleaded for leniency. They further promised to be more law abiding and disciplined.

The students of the Department of Mathematics have done exceptionally well at the 19th Conference of the National Association of Mathematical Sciences Students of Nigeria, (NAMSSN) held in Abuja recently.

The theme of the Conference was, “Applied Mathematics: An approach of National Economy Diversification.” There, the students came first (1st) in a competition among all other participants from different universities in Nigeria.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

2.1 POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

The following may apply for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma programmes:

1.1. Graduates from approved Universities who hold first degree classification with FCGPA of 1.50 and above on a 5point scale.

2.1.2. Candidates from approved Polytechnics or Monotechnics who hold a Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Upper Credit.

2.2. MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAMMES

The following may apply for admission into Masters Programmes:

Graduates from approved Universities who hold the appropriate degree in the proposed field of study with minimum FCGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale or a minimum of 60% for Universities that do not use FCGPA.
Holders of Postgraduate Diploma from recognized institutions with an FCGPA of 3.50 and above (on a 5 point scale).

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY PROGRAMMES

Graduates from approved universities who hold Mastersdegree in the proposed field of study with minimum FCGPA of 3.50 on a 5 point scale or a minimum of 70% for universities that do not use the FCGPA

MINIMUM GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for any Postgraduate programme must possess a minimum of 5 credits including English Language and any four relevant subjects at one or two sittings from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or TCII(Faculty of Education only) based on the Departmental/Faculty and General University Requirements.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMMES

4.1 Postgraduate Diploma Programme(PGD)

Full-Time Postgraduate Diploma programme: minimum of two (2) semesters and a maximum of three (3) semesters. Part- Time: minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters

Note: For the Faculty of Engineering Professional PGD: Full-Time: minimum of 4 Semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters. Part-Time: minimum of six (6) Semesters and a maximum of eight (8) semesters

4.2 Master Degree Programmes

Full-Time Masters Degree programmes: minimum of three (3) semesters and a maximum of six (6) semesters. Part-time programme: minimum of four (4) semesters and a maximum of eight (8) semesters

4.3 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme

Full-Time PhD programmes: minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters. Part-Time programme: minimum of eight (8) semesters and a maximum of fourteen (14) semesters.

5.1 Application form should be completed on-line by logging onto portal.unizik.edu.ng/postgraduate

Click on “Create Account” to Create a new account,
Fill the form and click on “Submit”
An email will be sent to your box and a page indicating the successful creation of your profile will be displayed. Click on “click here”. You will be directed to the log in page.
Enter your username and password and click on “sign in”.
Follow the instruction on the page following each step as indicated to access the application form.
Click on Step one on the menu bar on your left to generate and print the (Remita Retrieval Reference) Number for the ICT Fee (N1, 000).
Click on Step two on the menu bar on your left to generate and print the (Remita Retrieval Reference) Number for the Application Fee (N10, 000).
Take the RRR to any bank of your choice for payment of Application Fee and ICT Fee.

To confirm payment:

Click on step three. Type the RRR for the ICT Fee in the RRR textbox and click on “Confirm”. Again, type in the RRR for the Application fee in the RRR textbox and click on “Confirm”
Once the confirmation for the two payments is successful, you can proceed to step four to fill your application form
Click on step four. Fill and submit online the completed Application Form, scanning and attaching the claimed certificates, including O’level certificates.

5.2 Print the completed Application Form for your personal use. You will require this document in the course of the admission and registration.

5.3 Download and print a copy of the Transcript Request Form. The Transcript Request Form should be sent to your former Institution for your academic transcripts. Any change of name should be indicated in the transcript form.

5.4 Applicants should include the names, phone number and e-mail addresses of two Referees. At least one of the referees must be Academics not lower than the rank of Senior Lecturer.

5.5 Sale of Form Ends on 4^th August, 2017.

UNIZIK TO HOST THE 2017 ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT, NIGERIA

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka is set to host the 2017 Annual Conference/Annual General Meeting of the Academy of Management, Nigeria. The 11th Annual Conference is scheduled to hold from Wednesday 25th to Thursday 26th October, 2017.

Time to Fort Care Specialist Medical Centre is set to partner with the University in the area of medical services. They offer special care in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and Internal Medicines. Moreso, they offer free Ultra Sound Scan for pregnant women every Monday from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 a.m. The Centre is now registering for breast examination using breast lamp. Applications are invited from qualified candidates, particularly Practising Journalists without any qualification in Journalism or Mass Communication for admission into the Professional Diploma in Journalism (PDJ) Programme offered by the Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The programme is aimed at equipping journalists, especially those who have practiced the profession for several years without any formal qualification in Journalism or Mass Communication, with the theoretical knowledge to remedy their deficiency.

Entry Qualification

At least five O’ Level credits obtained in not more than two sittings, including English Language.

Duration of Programme

The (PDJ) is a part time programme that is expected to run for a minimum of three semesters of 18 calendar months.

The PDJ is a part-time programme in which practicing Journalists will attend lectures two to three days in a week between 2.00 p.m. and 6. 00 p.m. to give them the freedom to attend to their daily professional assignments in the morning hours.

The Faculty of Environmental Sciences has lost a staff of the Department of Building, Mr. Nnabuike Joshua Obi who until his death was a Principal Laboratory Technologist. Burial Arrangement will be communicated later.

Burial Arrangement: Wednesday, 7th of June – Commendation Service at the University Auditorium by 10.00 a.m.; Thursday, 8th of June, 2017 – Funeral Service at the Church of Pentecost, Awka; Interment follows immediately after service at his residence, No. 1 Sir Ifedioramma Dike Street, (Rd.7), Iyiagu Estate, Phase 2, Awka; Friday/Saturday, 9th and 10th of June, 2017 – Condolence continues; Sunday, 11th June, 2017 by 9.00 a.m. – Outing Service at the Church of Pentecost.
