The 2021 Fourth Quarter Meeting of Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Delegates of Alumni Associations of Nigerian Universities (CAANU) ended in a grand style on Saturday, December 4th, 2021 in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
In his remarks, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council, NAU, Prof. Sulyman Alege Kuranga described Alumni Associations of Nigeria as an assemblage of graduates/former students of tertiary institutions, that have contributed significantly to the development of their alma maters, such as providing avenues for socialization and provision of links through which the feelings and impressions about their institutions can be made known.
Also speaking, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS, FPSN, stated that Alumni associations and community involvement in an institution is key in advancing Education. Prof. Esimone gave a brief history of the institution from the moment it was established in 1980 to the present day. He stated that the institution has grown in leaps and bounce while highlighting that as the Vice-Chancellor with his vision of ‘Project 200’, he is poised in ensuring that UNIZIK becomes number one in Nigeria, top 10 in Africa and top 200 in the globe before his tenure ends in 2024.
On his part, the Coordinator Alumni Relations and Chairman Local Organizing Committee (LOC) CAANU UNIZIK, Dr Nwachukwu Obiakor, commended UNIZIK management for given optimal attention to the Alumni, stressing that the University Alumni have recorded outstanding and excellent achievements and breakthroughs in their various fields of human endeavour in which the University has tapped and would be pleased to continue to tap from these experiences and resources.
