Department of Igbo, African, and Communication Studies Pays Courtesy Visit to UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor.
The Department of Igbo, African, and Communication Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie.
The delegation was led by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. George Onwudiwe, who also belongs to the Department. In his remarks, the Dean introduced members of the delegation and congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on his assumption of office.
Prof. Onwudiwe conveyed the appreciation of the Department for what he described as the positive leadership and direction the Vice-Chancellor has provided to the University since assuming office. He acknowledged the efforts of the university administration in moving the institution forward.
Speaking on behalf of the Department, the Dean also raised some issues that require the attention of the University management. These include:
1. Ensuring that students admitted into the Department of Igbo, African, and Communication Studies are not transferred to other departments, as such transfers reduce the Department’s student population.
2. The retrieval of the lost “Obi Igbo” back to the Department.
3. The correction and proper reflection of the Department’s official name — Igbo, African, and Communication Studies — across all functioning university portals.
4. The provision of technologists to support the Department’s academic and research activities.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anyaehie, appreciated the visit and acknowledged the concerns raised by the delegation. He assured them that the issues presented would be carefully reviewed and that the University management would take appropriate steps to address them.
Other members of the delegation included the Head of Department, Prof. Christian Ogwudile, alongside Prof. Nkechinyere Nwokoye, Prof. Gladys Ifeoma Udechukwu, Prof. Nkoli Nnyigide, Prof. Nonye Joy Moghalu, Prof. Ikechukwu Okodo, Prof. Chinweude Ugochukwu, Dr. Ethel Orji, Rev. Fr. Dr. Patrick Umezi, Dr. Juliet Ifunanya Okeyika, and Dr. Chioma Anagor, among other lecturers.
