EDUCATION KEY TO REALIZATION OF GOALS OF THE NEW STRUGGLE – CONCOCATION LECTURER, PROF. ORAMAH
Education is the key to the realization of the goals of the new stuggle as to what should constitute the right value via the best form of Education.
These were the assertions of the 14th Convocation lecturer and President /Chairman Board of Directors, African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK), Prof. Benedict Okey Oramah on the topic:”Unleashing the Power of the Youths”.
Prof. Oramah stated that history and contemporary evidence have shown that the youth have been the catalyst to eceonomic transformation. He further expressed that at the height of the industrial revolutions in advanced economies, the youth constitutes the largest proportion of the labour force and the population.
The scholar also highlighted that the youth were instrumental to the Asian miracle that propelled South East Asia from poverty to prosperity during the 1970s to the 1990s. He also sited a case were in 1980, the percentage of the population under 45 in China, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore ranged between 76 and 80 percent.
Prof. Oramah stated that with the high youth employment, rising crime rates and dangerous emigration practices, the youth as Africa’s greatest resource and asset are much more valuable than oil and solid minerals therefore there is imminent need to channel their Energy to useful gains.
