Faculty of Education, UNIZIK Hosts Biennial Hybrid International Conference on Digitalization and Sustainable Education Advancement.
The Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, hosted its Biennial Hybrid International Conference on Tuesday, 12th May 2026, at the ASUU Secretariat, Awka. Scholars, researchers, educationists, administrators, policymakers, students, and guests from various parts of the country participated both physically and virtually.
The conference, themed “Digitalisation and Sustainable Education Advancement,” focused on the growing importance of technology-driven educational systems and the need for sustainable strategies that can improve teaching, learning, research, and academic administration in higher education institutions.
The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, represented by Prof. Hilda Osisoma graced the conference and conveyed the goodwill message of the university management to participants.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor described the conference as timely and significant, especially at a period when educational institutions across the world are rapidly embracing digital transformation to improve academic delivery and institutional effectiveness.
He commended the Dean of the Faculty of Education, the Local Organising Committee, and members of staff for organising a conference that addresses contemporary realities in global education.
According to him, digital transformation has become an indispensable tool for sustainable educational advancement, stressing that institutions must continuously adapt to emerging technologies to remain globally competitive.
The Vice-Chancellor further stated that Nnamdi Azikiwe University has continued to make significant progress in digital innovation through the establishment of e-learning platforms, smart classrooms, digital libraries, and ICT capacity-building programmes for staff and students.
He added that the recently approved UNIZIK Digital Transformation Blueprint was designed to integrate technology into pedagogy, administration, research, and institutional operations in line with global best practices.
He encouraged scholars and participants at the conference to continue engaging in meaningful research capable of providing practical solutions to educational challenges confronting society.
The Vice-Chancellor also emphasised the need for collaborative efforts among universities, researchers, government agencies, and private organisations in promoting innovation and sustainable development within the education sector.
In her response, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Chinelo Ebele Okigbo stated that the conference came at a critical period in the history of global education where digital technologies are redefining the processes of knowledge creation, dissemination, and application.
She noted that the rapid advancement of technology has created both opportunities and challenges for educators and institutions, making it necessary for stakeholders in the education sector to continually evolve and embrace innovative approaches.
Prof. Okigbo explained that the conference was designed to provide a platform for intellectual exchange, innovative research presentations, scholarly interactions, and meaningful collaborations among academics and professionals.
She urged participants to actively contribute ideas, share experiences, and explore practical solutions capable of driving sustainable educational advancement in Nigeria and beyond.
The Dean further reaffirmed the commitment of the Faculty of Education toward promoting academic excellence, quality research, innovation, and professional development through conferences, workshops, and other scholarly engagements.
The conference also highlighted the importance of integrating digital technology into teacher education, curriculum development, educational management, and research practices in order to meet global educational standards and prepare students for the demands of the modern world.
Participants at the conference applauded the Faculty of Education and the University management for sustaining academic excellence through continuous intellectual engagements capable of contributing positively to national development and educational transformation.
The conference featured keynote presentations, technical sessions, research paper presentations, and panel discussions centred on digital learning, educational technology, sustainable development, artificial intelligence in education, and modern approaches to teaching and learning.
Among notable personalities present at the conference were Prof. Nkechi Duru, Prof. J. I. Ogbuagu, Prof. Emmanuel Asiegbu, Prof. C. A. Ugodulunwa, Dr. Regina Enebechi and Mrs. Ifenyinwa Emenye, alongside professors, lecturers, researchers, staff, and students of the university.
The event ended with renewed calls for increased investment in digital infrastructure, research innovation, staff development, and collaborative partnerships aimed at strengthening sustainable education advancement in Nigeria and beyond.
