Jewish-American Team Visits Nnamdi Azikiwe University

The Igbo Jewish Community Synagogue Anambra State recently led the Jewish-American Team on a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu. Prof. Ada Sam-Omenyi, the SAVC (Academics), represented the Acting Vice-Chancellor.

During the visit, Mrs. Agha Benedeth, Coordinator of the Jewish Community Synagogue in Anambra State and Head of Service for Ihiala Local Government Area, emphasized the purpose of the visit. “The Jewish-American team’s visit to the University is aimed at establishing linkages and exploring areas of support. It is also a homecoming to their ancestral home of Igbo land, as DNA tests have confirmed their lineage. Their ancestors were taken into slavery in the United States of America many years ago,” she said.

The team were scheduled to meet with the traditional rulers of Ogidi, Ogbunike and Nri before they departed Nigeria.

In response, Prof. Ada Sam-Omenyi conveyed the Acting Vice-Chancellor’s gratitude and appreciation for the team’s efforts to trace their origins and explore collaboration. She reiterated the University’s commitment to partnerships and linkages that align with its reputation for excellence.

Other dignitaries present during the visit included Prof. A.U. Nonyelu, SAVC (General Duties); Mr MacAnthony O., representing the Registrar; Prof. Stella Anasi, University Librarian; and Prof. F.J.C. Odibo, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics).
The visit highlighted our University’s openness to fostering global partnerships.
