NAU Medical Centre Partners with UNIZIK FM on Public Health Awareness

The Medical Centre of Nnamdi Azikiwe University has initiated a strategic collaboration with UNIZIK FM to strengthen public health awareness and promote preventive healthcare within the university community.

The partnership was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Jane Ezeonu, to the Director of UNIZIK FM, Prof. Ifeoma Dunu, at the station located within the university premises in Awka on Friday, May 22, 2026.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Ezeonu explained that the collaboration was prompted by the recent inauguration of the Medical Centre’s Sensitisation Outreach Committee. She noted that the committee was established to design and implement sustained health education initiatives aimed at promoting preventive healthcare, encouraging early medical intervention, and strengthening engagement between the Medical Centre and the university community through media platforms.

She emphasised that the committee would focus on identifying and addressing pressing health concerns within the university environment, reiterating that “early detection saves lives” and “prevention is better than cure.”

Dr. Ezeonu also announced the appointment of Dr. Okoye Chikodili as the focal person for early detection advocacy and public health sensitisation, beginning with a campaign on menstrual health and hygiene.

In her response, Prof. Dunu commended the Medical Centre for leveraging media as a tool for public enlightenment. She highlighted the media’s critical role in disseminating health information and supporting impactful outreach programmes.

She further assured the Medical Centre of the station’s full support through a weekly health programme titled Health Vibes and Facts, which will serve as a platform for continuous health education and community engagement.

The collaboration is expected to improve public health awareness and encourage healthier lifestyles among students, staff, and residents within and around the university community.

Also present at the meeting were:
    Comrade Enwerekowe Onyinye (Principal Nursing)
Dr. Okoye Chikodili (Principal Medical Officer)
Dr. Udedi Lucy (Head, Clinical Unit)
Dr. Florence C. Ozoh (Director, Nursing Services)
Dr. Iferika Igwe E.S. (Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist)
