Introduction
The Faculty of Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, achieved a remarkable feat by securing the overall first position in the highly competitive CODET 2023 Engineering Students Competition in the group category. It also clinched third position in the singles. This prestigious event took place on July 13, 2023, at the CHISCO Auditorium.
Competition Overview
The competition brought together prominent universities in the South East region, including Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (NAU), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Madonna University, Anambra (MUA), Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), and Imo State University Owerri (IMSU). The event was hosted by Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, where the Department of Electrical Engineering secured the overall first position, while the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering claimed third place.
Project Presentations
Each university showcased a minimum of two innovative projects developed by their recent graduates, under the guidance of their professors. Goodwill messages were exchanged among the participating schools, fostering collaboration and camaraderie.
Distinguished Attendees
The occasion was graced by numerous dignitaries from the academic and industrial sectors. Notable figures included the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles O. Esimone, who was represented by DV Admin Prof. Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu and delivered the opening speech. Additionally, Prof. Solomon C. Nwigbo, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Joseph T. Nwabanne, immediate past dean (IPD), faculty of Engineering Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Clement Ohaneme, Prof. Ken Akpado, Prof. Chinoso Hubert Achebe Dean Students Affairs, Dr. Ogwugwam C. Ezeagwu, Chairman of CODET Unizik, shared his opening remarks, while other deans and prominent figures from the industrial sector also made significant contributions to the event’s success.
Judging Process
The CODET Project Exhibition Competition featured a panel of five judges who objectively assessed the presented projects. Their impartial evaluations ensured fairness and accuracy in determining the winners.
Road to National Competition
By clinching the top spot in the regional competition, Nnamdi Azikiwe University has qualified for the prestigious CODET National Competition, scheduled to take place in Abuja in August 2023. This accomplishment highlights the university’s commitment to excellence in engineering education and research.
