Ogbalu Memorial Committee Commends Vice-Chancellor’s Support, Appeals for Financial Assistance

The Ogbalu Memorial Committee on Friday, July 3, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, to express appreciation for his unwavering support towards the successful hosting of the Ogbalu Memorial Lecture Series and to seek financial assistance to offset outstanding obligations arising from the event.

Leading the delegation, Prof. Angela U. N. Nwankwere commended the Vice-Chancellor for the encouragement, goodwill, and institutional support he provided before and during the lecture series. She noted that his commitment played a significant role in the success of the programme.

Prof. Nwankwere further informed the Vice-Chancellor that despite the impressive turnout of staff, students, and other participants, the committee was still grappling with unpaid financial commitments. She explained that although several individuals made financial pledges during the event, only a few had fulfilled their promises, leaving the committee with outstanding debts.

She therefore appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to assist the committee financially in clearing the remaining obligations.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the delegation for the visit and congratulated the committee on the successful organisation of the memorial lecture, describing the programme as a worthwhile academic initiative that honoured the legacy of its namesake.

Prof. Anyaehie, however, explained that the University was currently operating under financial constraints, making it difficult to provide the requested assistance at the moment. He noted that a substantial portion of the University’s internally generated revenue is derived from student admissions, which had not yet commenced for the current academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor further explained that upon assuming office, the admission process had already been concluded, leaving the present administration to manage limited available resources. He appealed to the committee to re-present its request when the University’s financial situation improves.

Speaking further on behalf of the delegation, Prof. Charles Azubuike Nneka expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for his candour, patience, and warm reception. He assured him of the committee’s continued goodwill, prayers, and support for the University’s administration.

The visit concluded with the presentation of gift items to the Vice-Chancellor by members of the Ogbalu Memorial Committee.

Other members of the delegation included Prof. Nkoli Nnyigide, Chairman of the Committee; Dr. Echezona Obiagbaosogu, Member; and Dr. Ann C. Onyekelu, Secretary.
