The upcoming Postgraduate Teachers Assembly is aimed at receiving and discussing the annual report of the School of Post Graduate Studies as well as to review it’s activities and recommend areas of improvement and innovation in the postgraduate programme of the school.
These were the reactions of the Dean, UNIZIK School of Postgraduate Studies, Engr. Prof. Philomena Igbokwe
Prof. Igbokwe stated that at the instance of the Postgraduate regulation and guidelines, section 3.3A of its article stipulates that the assembly of the postgraduate teachers and another assembly for students should be held annually. The first female Professor of Chemical Engineering in Nigeria posited that the assembly which in its maiden edition is timely with the theme: “Repositioning Postgraduate training in Nnamdi Azikiwe University” will provide a platform for academic staff of the Institution to interface and brainstorm on ways to improve on the programme.
The Professor of Chemical and Process Engineering stated that the choice of Professor Jonathan Babalola who is the provost of the Postgraduate College of the University of Ibadan is on the premise that the UI likes to pride itself as the flagship for postgraduate programmes in Africa and it’s an opportunity to hear from the avid scholar on how the University of Ibadan achieved its feat and reputation.
The University Don also said that the expected participants are from the cadre of Lecturer 1 who teach postgraduate students, she also stated that this is a milestone in the existence of UNIZIK in line with the vision for Project 200 of the present administration under the leadership of Prof. Charles Esimone.
