University don has harped on the need for biodiversification in all aspects of agriculture even as the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the key sector of most nations.
The call was made by a Professor of Soil Science and Land Resource Management, Prof. Peter Nnabude, during a media parley with UNIZIK FM correspondents Iyke Nwokedi and Chioma Mofunanya.
Prof. Nnabude described biodiversity as a natural selection process which is inclusive of both plants and animal agricultural practice. The scholar posited that before the COVID-19 era, Nigeria’s agricultural involvement is nothing to write home about as the government have continually paid leap service to it with over dependence on the dwindling oil sector which is the country’s major source of revenue and the mainstay of our economy.
Prof. Nnabude lamented the fact that the advent of the novel Corona Virus shows how deplorable agriculture is in terms of the practice in Nigeria, he stated that this is the time for reality check to take this sector as very important for the country’s growth and development. He called on the government to put in measures and right policies to enhance the agricultural sector as it’s the right step in the right direction for a country which seek to make huge leap and economic boom.
