FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE
AGRIC ECONOMICS AND EXTENSION
O’level
5 O’ level credits to include English Language, Maths, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science in not more than two sittings. Pass in Maths may be considered if the candidate has a credit in Physics or vice versa. The 5 credits must be obtained in not more than 2 sittings. A credit pass in Agricultural Science must be backed up with at least a pass in Biology
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
The candidate must be a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University with at least a Third-Class degree in Agriculture or related discipline or a minimum of lower Credit in the Higher National Diploma, HND, from a recognized Institution in Agriculture or related discipline
Master’s Degree (MSc)
- The candidate must have a first degree in Agricultural Economics or Extension and related areas with an FCGPA of not less than 2.50 from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University
- A candidate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics or Extension and related areas with an FCGPA of not less than 3.00 may also be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirements are satisfied
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree
A candidate who holds a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics or Extension and related areas with an FCGPA not less than 3.50 on a 5 Point Scale or an average of 60%, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University may be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirement is satisfied
- ANIMAL SCIENCE AND PRODUCTION
O’level
5 O’ level credits to include English Language, Maths, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science in not more than two sittings. Pass in Maths may be considered if the candidate has a credit in Physics or vice versa. The 5 credits must be obtained in not more than 2 sittings. A credit pass in Agricultural Science must be backed up with at least a pass in Biology.

- The candidate must be a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University with at least a Third-Class degree in or a minimum of lower Credit in the Higher National Diploma, HND, from a recognized Institution in Agriculturally oriented courses like Animal Production/Animal Sciences/Health, Wildlife/Fisheries, etc.
Master’s Degree (MSc)
- The candidate must have a first degree in Animal Science with an FCGPA of not less than 2.50 from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University
- A candidate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Animal Science with an FCGPA of not less than 3.00 may also be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirements are satisfied
3 CROP SCIENCE AND HORTICULTURE
O’ level
5 O’ level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science in not more than two sittings. Pass in Mathematics may be considered if the candidate has a credit in Physics or vice versa. The 5 credits must be obtained in not more than 2 sittings. A credit pass in Agricultural Science must be backed up with at least a pass in Biology.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
The candidate must be a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University with at least a Third Class degree in scale in Agriculturally oriented courses like Crop Science, Agronomy, Crop Production, Crop Protection, Plant Health Management, Horticulture, Soil Science, Agricultural Economics and Extension, Animal Science, Botany, etc. or a minimum of lower Credit in the Higher National Diploma, HND, from a recognized Institution in Agriculture, Crop Science or related enterprise.
Master’s Degree (MSc)
- The candidate must have a first degree in Crop Science, Agronomy, Crop Production, Crop Protection, Plant Health Management, Horticulture or Soil Science with an FCGPA of not less than 2.5 from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University
- A candidate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Crop Science with an FCGPA of not less than 3.00 may also be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirements are satisfied
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree
A candidate who holds a master’s degree in Crop Science, Agronomy, Crop Production, Horticulture or any option in Crop Protection with an FCGPA not less than 3.50 on a 5 Point Scale or an average of 60%, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University may be
admitted provided the University Matriculation requirement is satisfied.
4 FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE
O’level
Candidates must have credit passes in 5 O’level subjects to include English, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology/Agriculture Science and any other. Pass in Mathematics, may be considered if the candidate has a credit in Physics or vice versa. The 5credits must be obtained in not more than two sitting. The credit pass in Agricultural Science must be backed up at least with a pass in Biology.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
The criteria for admission into the PGD Programme will be as follows:
Matriculation requirements of individual Universities including Mathematics and English Language. A candidate with at least 3rd class degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Minimum of HND lower Credit in fisheries and aquaculture or related disciplines from a recognized institution.
Master’s Degree (MSc)
Candidates seeking admission for Academic Master of Science Degree Programme in fisheries and aquaculture must have any of the following qualifications from recognized Institutions.
Bachelor’s Degree in Aquaculture or related disciplines with a minimum of 2.5 FCGPA on a 5-point scale HND lower Credit plus PGD a, in addition to satisfying University Matriculation requirements.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree
- Candidates seeking admission for Doctor of Philosophy in fisheries and aquaculture must have the following qualifications from recognized institution.
- Academic Masters (M.Sc.) Degree in fisheries and aquaculture with a minimum FCGPA of 3.50 on 5 point scale or 60%in the overall result . He shall also fulfill any other entry requirements as specified by the Faculty Board of Agriculture of the Post Graduate school of Nnamdi Azikiwe University
- FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
O’level
5 O’ level credits to include English Language, Maths, Chemistry and Biology/Agricultural Science in not more than two sittings. Pass in Maths may be considered if the candidate has a credit in Physics or vice versa. The 5 credits must be obtained in not more than 2 sittings. A credit pass in Agricultural Science must be backed up with at least a pass in Biology.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
The candidate must be a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University with at least a Third Class degree in Food Science and Technology or allied disciplines or a minimum of lower Credit in Food Science and Technology or Food Science or Food Technology in the Higher National Diploma, HND, from a recognized Institution
Master’s Degree (MSc)
- The candidate must have a first degree in Food Science & Technology or in related fields such as: Biochemistry, Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Industrial Chemistry or any other related course acceptable to the Department of Food Science and Technology of Nnamdi Azikiwe University with an FCGPA of not less than 2.5 from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University
- A candidate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Food Science & Technology or relevant discipline with an FCGPA of not less than 3.0 may also be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirements are satisfied
6. SOIL SCIENCE AND LAND RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
O’ Level
Five (5) credits in O’ level, including English, Mathematics and Chemistry plus any other two (2) of the following: Physics or Biology and Agricultural Sciences
Post Graduate Diploma (PGD)
Candidate seeking admission for Post Graduate Diploma in Soil Science and Land Resources Management must possess any of the following qualifications from recommended institution (s):
- Higher national Diploma in Agriculture with a minimum of Lower Credit
- Minimum of Third-Class Degree at Bachelor’s level in Agriculture or related discipline (Sciences)
Master of Science (M. Sc.) Degree in Soil Science
Candidates seeking admission for the Master of Soil Science Programme in Soil Science and Land Resources Management must have any of the following qualifications from recognized institution(s):
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related discipline with a minimum of 2.5 Second class lower on a 5point scale.

- Students are required to demonstrate the ability to read and write one African language. Students are strongly advised to acquire knowledge of an additional European language.

MBBS holders must have passed pathology in not more than one sitting.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree
A candidate who holds a master’s degree in a relevant discipline with an FCGPA not less than 3.50 on a 5 Point Scale or an average of 60%, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University may be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirement is satisfied

- The candidate must have a first degree in Pharmacology, Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Parasitology and Entomology, Nursing Science, Physiotherapy, Medical Laboratory Science, Medicine, Pharmacy, with an FCGPA of not less than 2.5 from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University
For unclassified degrees i.e. Medicine and Surgery, and Pharmacy candidates with 55% or above in undergraduate Pharmacology.
2. A candidate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacology with an FCGPA of not less than 3.0 may also be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirements are satisfied

- B.Sc in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Rehabilitation, or Radiography and must have credited all their core Anatomy courses in the process.
Ph. D Programme
- A candidate who holds a master’s degree in Anatomy with an FCGPA not less than 3.50 on a 5 Point Scale or an average of 60%, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University may be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirement is satisfied

The department offers the M.Sc and Ph.D programmes in Human Biochemistry . Admission requirements for the programmes are as follows:

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
The candidate must be a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University with at least a Third Class degree or a minimum of lower Credit in the Higher National Diploma, HND, from a recognized Institution
The Postgraduate Diploma in Botany is open to first degree holders in Science Education, Microbiology, Zoology, Biology, Agriculture, Forestry, other areas in Pure and Applied Sciences. Also graduates with good HND/HNC in related Biological sciences are eligible to apply.
Master’s Degree (MSc)
- The candidate must have a first degree in the relevant discipline with an FCGPA of not less than 2.5 from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or a recognized University
- A candidate with a Postgraduate Diploma with an FCGPA of not less than 3.0 may also be admitted provided the University Matriculation requirements are satisfied
Admission to the programme is open to graduates with good B.Sc. degree in Botany, Plant Biology or Plant Science or in related discipline
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree

Two master’s degree qualifications are designed to be obtained in the programme.

O Level
Five credit level passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than 2 sittings.
MSc Programme
MBBS Degree: Doctor of Optometry (OD) or its equivalent; BSc (Nursing) or BNSc plus
2 years working experience in eye care; BSc (Nursing) or BNSc plus Diploma in
Ophthalmic Nursing. The Nursing degree should be with an FCGPA of not less than 2.5
on a 5-point scale from Nnamdi Azikiwe University or any other University recognized by
the Senate.
