Researchers at Nnamdi Azikiwe University has discovered that drinking soymilk daily is beneficial to the heart because it lowers total cholesterol in healthy individuals. Drinking a minimum of one pint of soymilk daily is very beneficial to health.
Healthy individuals could therefore prevent the elevation of their total cholesterol level by consuming soymilk. Also, those who are already suffering from high cholesterol may be advised to combine it with their normal medication by their doctor.
This could reduce the dose of the drug consumed in the long run. So, soy drink could be a good non-pharmacological cholesterol-reducing agent and this was seen in both males and females. This finding was published in the Journal of Medicinal Food (https://doi.org/10.1089/jmf.2010.0005) by Prof Jude Onuegbu of the Department of Chemical, Nnamdi Azikiwe University with other co-authors.
