UNIVERSITY HOLDS ASSET DECLARATION SENSITIZATION FOR STAFF.

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, in collaboration with the Code of Conduct Bureau, on April 9, 2026, organized a staff sensitization programme on Asset Declaration at the University Auditorium. The programme aimed to enlighten staff members on ethical standards and compliance requirements in public service.

The sensitization session featured key officials from the Code of Conduct Bureau, including the State Director, Mrs. Gloria Nweke; the Principal Enforcement Officer, Mr. Akazue Ofunne Francis; and the Superintendent, Mr. Uche Mbogbogu.

In her address, Mrs. Nweke described the Code of Conduct Bureau as a Federal Government agency established to promote honesty, transparency, and accountability in public office. She noted that the Bureau is mandated to uphold high moral standards in public service and ensure strict compliance among public officers.

Speaking on asset declarations, Mrs. Nweke emphasized that it is a mandatory requirement for all public officers. She explained that political office holders are required to declare their assets at the beginning and end of their tenure, while career public officers must do so every four years.

She further disclosed that the Bureau is making efforts to transition to a fully digital asset declaration system. Pending its full implementation, officers are required to download, complete, sign, and submit the forms to the Bureau. She cautioned participants to ensure accuracy in their declarations, noting that false declarations could attract serious penalties, including the forfeiture of undeclared assets.

Mrs. Nweke also provided a comprehensive, step-by-step guide on how to properly complete the asset declaration forms, outlining the necessary documentation required for each section to ensure compliance.

In her vote of thanks, Mrs. Nnadum Somto, a Deputy Registrar, expressed appreciation to the Bureau officials for their insightful presentation. She described the programme as timely and highly informative, urging staff to apply the knowledge gained and ensure prompt and accurate asset declaration. She also encouraged continuous adherence to ethical standards in the discharge of official duties.

The programme featured an interactive session, during which participants asked questions and received clarifications on various aspects of asset declaration from the Bureau officials.
