UNIZIK Faculty of Law Hosts Maiden Memorial Lecture in Honour of Clement Obiora Akpamgbo.







The Faculty of Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, in collaboration with friends, family, and associates of the late Sir Clement Obiora Akpamgbo, successfully hosted its maiden memorial lecture in honour of the distinguished legal luminary. The event took place on Saturday, 4th April, 2026 at the ASUU NAU Secretariat, UNIZIK, Awka.
The lecture, themed “Role of Advocacy in Promoting Access to Justice in Nigeria: Lessons from Clement Obiora Akpamgbo’s Legacy,” brought together an array of eminent legal practitioners, scholars, students, and key stakeholders within the justice sector.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, warmly welcomed participants and described the event as a fitting tribute to a towering figure in Nigeria’s legal history and a tireless advocate for justice. Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Hilda Osisioma, he emphasized that justice must not only exist but must be accessible to all—particularly the marginalized and vulnerable.
Reflecting on the enduring legacy of Sir Akpamgbo, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted his unwavering commitment to human rights, fairness, and the rule of law. He urged legal professionals to remain steadfast in advocating for policies that promote equity and justice, while also commending the Faculty of Law for organizing such a significant intellectual engagement. He expressed confidence that the lecture would spark meaningful discourse and inspire impactful actions, before formally declaring the event open.
The memorial lecture featured thought-provoking presentations, reflections, and discussions centered on enhancing access to justice, advancing legal reforms, and reinforcing the responsibilities of legal practitioners in contemporary Nigeria. The Faculty reaffirmed its commitment to upholding and sustaining the legacy of excellence, integrity, and service exemplified by the late Senior Advocate.
The event attracted an impressive lineup of dignitaries, including the Asagba of Asaba, HRM, Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge, OON; Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN, OFR; Chief Chris Uche, SAN; Senator Ben Ndii Obi, CON (Ojeligbo); Rev. Fr.
