UNIZIK Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Launches Maiden Lecture Series, Celebrates Founding Icons, and Secures Development Commitments.







The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, successfully hosted its maiden Faculty Lecture Series alongside a prestigious recognition ceremony honoring its founding fathers. The landmark event underscored the Faculty’s commitment to academic excellence and institutional growth.
The occasion drew an array of distinguished personalities, including two former VCs of UNIZIK, Professor Ilochi Okafor and Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone; Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi; CEO of JUHEL Pharmaceutical, Dr Ifeanyi Okoye; representative of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Mrs Ifeoma Agbaizu, and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie.
The lecture, themed “Human Capital Development in the 21st Century: Mentorship and Philanthropy as Critical Catalysts for National Development,” explored the transformative role of mentorship and strategic social investment in driving sustainable national progress.
Representing the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Uche Annie Okonkwo conveyed the commitment of Abubakar Kabir Bichi to supporting infrastructural development within the University. Plans were unveiled for the construction of a two-storey building to benefit both staff and students. A donation of ₦1,000,000 was also announced in support of the institution.
In his welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Sunday O. Nduka, expressed gratitude to attendees while outlining critical needs of the Faculty. These include additional male hostel accommodation, the establishment of an animal research facility, and enhanced landscaping of the Faculty environment.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to distinguished individuals for their outstanding contributions to academia, governance, and national development. Honorees included Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, Dr Ifeanyi Okoye, Professor Poly I. Emenike, Dr Chris Ejike Imoka, Professor Ilochi Okafor, Professor Mojisola Christiana Adeyeye, Chief Franklin Anazodo, Professor Ikemefuna Chijioke Uzochukwu, and Chief Paulinus Aniagboso.
The event concluded on a high note with a closing prayer, marking a successful debut of what promises to become a significant academic tradition within the Faculty.
