UNIZIK Female Football Team Intensifies Preparations for FASU Games

The female football team of Nnamdi Azikiwe University has intensified preparations ahead of the forthcoming Fédération Africaine du Sport Universitaire Games scheduled to hold in Cairo, Egypt, later this year.

As part of the university’s strategic preparations for the continental tournament, the team has continued to engage in series of competitive warm-up matches against formidable sides within and outside Anambra State to build tactical strength, physical fitness, and team cohesion.

In one of the preparatory fixtures played last weekend, Team UNIZIK recorded an impressive 4–0 victory over Ojoto Queens, demonstrating the team’s readiness and growing confidence ahead of the competition. The team is also scheduled to face Umudioka Queens this coming Sunday at the Coke Centre, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, at 1:00 pm.

Speaking on the importance of the early preparations, the Acting Director of Sports, Mrs Anthonia Chukwudi, stated that the warm-up matches are designed to adequately prepare the players both physically and psychologically for the challenges expected at the tournament in Cairo, popularly referred to as “The City of a Thousand Minarets.”

Mrs. Chukwudi expressed confidence in the preparedness of the university contingent, noting that the institution is entering the tournament with renewed determination and stronger organisational support than ever before. She commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for his unwavering support towards sports development and the university teams representing the institution at the international level.

According to her, the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to the growth of staff and student sports within the short period of his administration remains exceptional and unprecedented in the history of the university.

The university community remains optimistic that the female football team will continue to make the institution proud as preparations intensify for the prestigious African university sports championship in Egypt.
