UNIZIK Female Football Team Maintains Winning Momentum Ahead of FASU Games
The female football team of Nnamdi Azikiwe University continued its impressive build-up to the forthcoming Fédération Africaine du Sport Universitaire Games with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Umudioka Queens FC in a preparatory match played on Sunday at the Coke Centre, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The encounter, which formed part of the team’s ongoing preparations for the continental championship scheduled to be held in Cairo, Egypt, tested the resilience and tactical discipline of the UNIZIK side against a more experienced and professional opponent.
Coming on the heels of their emphatic 4–0 triumph over Ojoto Queens, the victory over Umudioka Queens FC further demonstrates the steady progress being made by the team as it fine-tunes strategies and strengthens team chemistry ahead of the prestigious tournament.
The match was keenly contested, with both sides displaying quality football. However, the UNIZIK ladies demonstrated determination, composure, and attacking flair to secure a deserved 2–1 win against their highly rated opponents.
Speaking after the game, the Acting Director of Sports, Mrs. Anthonia Chukwudi, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and the positive results being recorded in the preparatory fixtures. She noted that competing against strong and professional teams is helping the players develop the confidence, fitness, and competitive edge required to excel at the FASU Games.
Mrs. Chukwudi reiterated the university’s commitment to adequate preparation and commended the unwavering support of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, whose encouragement and investment in sports development have continued to inspire the athletes and coaching crew.
With back-to-back victories recorded in their warm-up matches, the UNIZIK female football team appears firmly on course for a successful outing in Cairo as expectations continue to rise within the university community.
